Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all staff activities in the food preparation, kitchen, pantry, and dishwashing areas.
  • Assist with and delegate food and safety tasks, as well as daily operational assignments
  • Participate in planning menus, preparing and portioning foods, and utilizing food surpluses and leftovers.
  • Control portion costs by calculating the number of servings produced.
  • Assist with recipe development, and evaluation to improve inventory control, and disposal management
  • Inspect final product to ensure the quality conforms to company specifications.
  • Maintain or exceed production goals on yields, productivity and efficiencies.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and assist with Quality Assurance department in enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Assist with occasional in-house, and offsite catering events
  • Execute timely and effective line handover between shifts, including the completion of proper documentation and accurate briefing on progress/issues.
  • Supervise staff to ensure cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Maintain all standards for sanitation & housekeeping as per company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Supervise staff engaged in inventory, storage, and distribution of food supplies.
  • Notify Management of any requests for purchase of groceries, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in training cooking staff as required; to ensure proper production SOP's, GMP's, equipment and Health & Safety standards are consistently met.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and codes in all areas of the facility including WCB, HACCP, WHMIS, & Workplace H&S.
  • Assist with accident-incidents investigations (as required), take corrective actions based on the root cause in order to reduce or eliminate workplace accidents.
  • Encourage the development of professional work habits by coaching staff members
  • Maintain daily operational targets, and efficiencies by motivating staff to work productively
  • All other work as assigned by the appointed Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience leading and/or managing a team and kitchen considered an asset
  • Experience in a Food Manufacturing facility is an asset.
  • Must be able to move, lift, carry, pull, push, and place objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain the Advanced Food Safety Certification that is valid in the province of Alberta and must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
  • Must be a great team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
