Overview:

Aggregates is an exciting industry where successful applicants get to experience the innovative and challenging world of mining while still being situated in an urban environment. As a member of the Dundas Quarry team the Production Supervisor is responsible to oversee all production activities at the Dundas Quarry which is Lafarge's largest Limestone mining manufacturing operation in Eastern Canada. The Production Supervisor’s primary focus is to lead the health and safety of the production department. This will be done while leveraging operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production at all stages of the operation. The Production Supervisor will lead by example supporting alignment with all functional groups, including Safety, Environment, Land, and Manufacturing to drive communication and consistency. The Production Supervisor is part of the engagement with our neighbours and local communities supporting our Deep Roots campaign to ensure we are viewed as a valued member of the industry and local community.

Responsibilities:

Safety Culture:
  • Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm;
  • Lead daily huddles to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
  • Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work;
  • Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.
Human Resources:
  • Directly responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of all direct reports to maximize their performance;
  • Responsible for the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports;
  • Assist in the site hiring process;
  • Assist in the administration and management of local collective and hourly working agreements amongst all direct reports;
  • Promote, develop and drive customer focus, operational efficiency and performance management process within frontline teams;
  • Practice active and passive supervision of frontline teams
Production Management:
  • Determine manpower requirements and shift scheduling to meet production demands;
  • Establish and manage weekly production and maintenance schedule;
  • Manage and drive meeting daily production targets;
  • Responsible for participating in the short-term planning and execution of maintenance activities along with the maintenance department;
  • Involved in the daily implementation and compliance to the Maintenance Module, including but not limited to creating job plans, completing equipment inspection logs, and managing maintenance backlogs;
Oversee maintenance of mobile equipment fleet, including:
    • Completion of mobile equipment inspections and correction of noted deficiencies;
    • External service report review and analysis;
    • Coordinating mobile equipment repairs & maintenance;
    • Tracking work order completion.
Oversee the procurement of all subcontractors related to production and mobile equipment.


Financial Management:
  • Assisting in the development and adherence to annual maintenance (repair) budgets;
  • Participate in monthly EBIT reviews to ensure its accuracy and to identify cost reduction opportunities;
  • Responsible to manage production and inventory forecasting to optimize yield and profitability;
  • Support supply chain with balancing inventories and sales needs to manage and minimize the working capital impact.
Customer Focus:
  • When required assist in the management of all frontline shipping personnel;
  • Coordinate with sales and dispatch personnel to ensure daily customer requirements are met;
  • Management of stockpile inventories;
  • Coordinate with Quality and shipping personnel to address shipping quality issues related to production issues.
Land Management:
  • Responsible for short-term planning and execution of activities in accordance with the Mining Plan;
  • Ensures site level compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements, including but not limited to site plans, rehabilitation and dust control.
Environmental Management:
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site Environmental Management System (EMS);
  • Manages daily water taking data to ensure compliance with Permits to Take Water (PTTW) at all respective sites.
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits; and ensure all direct reports comply with operational standards developed to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
Community Relations:
  • Act as the secondary contact with relevant stakeholders in the local community, including neighbours, competitors and government officials.
Relationships with Others Functions:
  • Reports to Production Manager
  • Manages Site Production: North Quarry Team, Cable Belt, and Processing Facility
  • Works closely with Safety, Maintenance, Quality, Land and Environmental personnel.

  • Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Maintenance management, Daily production sheets & meeting, Primary Crusher report, Blasting, Downtime reports
  • Customer Focus: Shipping & Quality KPI’s, Manage Shipping and Stockpiling staff

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience:
  • Grade 12 Diploma, College Degree in Engineering or Business would be definite asset.
  • A minimum of five years Supervisory/Managerial experience working in a similar environment
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Understanding of general accounting principles is an asset
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of the aggregate industry is preferred
  • Good written and verbal communications
