Basic Functions
The Pipe Welder's responsibilities include inspecting materials, maintaining tools, performing pre-welding preparations, welding components according to specifications and diligently following safety regulations. You should also be prepared to work in cramped places and harsh weather conditions.
To be successful as a Pipe Welder you should be able to study schematics and devise welding plans. A top Pipe Welder should work with great attention to detail and must be able to deliver a consistent and smooth weld. Oversees Welder helpers on site and may act as Supervisor on smaller scale projects. May also oversee general labourers and bolt up hands.
May have to work out of town- travel required
Responsibilities and Duties
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
- Understanding processes and weld procedure specifications
- Determining the required tools, materials and welding methods.
- Examining completed welds to ensure they are free of defects, smooth, and functional.
- Assembling, installing and repairing pipe components and systems according to specifications.
- Inspecting materials, equipment, and tools.
- Maintaining supplies, equipment, and tools.
- Preparing working materials by measuring clamping, cutting, grinding, etc.
- Observing safety regulations.
- Solid understanding of the OH&S legislation pertaining to construction
Position Requirements
- Journeyman Ticket
- 5 Years Experience in Pipeline Welding
- Physically fit
- Great degree of manual dexterity
- Able to interpret and execute complex instructions
- Can communicate in English (speak, read, and write)
- Ground Disturbance Awareness, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, CSTS or PCST and Generic WHMIS 2015 are required.
- Basic computer skills including Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Good organizational and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple, and changing priorities. Detail oriented with an aptitude for metrics.
- Strong drive to get projects / work completed. High integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel domestically as required.
