Water Distribution Operator – Level II
The District of Peachland, a vibrant and growing community of approximately 5,800 located on the shores of Okanagan Lake between Kelowna and Penticton, is currently recruiting for a permanent fulltime Water Distribution Operator – Level II.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position’s primary focus is the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the District’s water distribution system with a secondary focus of assisting, as needed, within the Peachland Creek water treatment plant.
Key Job Duties / Functions
- Operate and maintain all water distribution and treatment infrastructure in an effective and efficient manner to minimize health risks and environmental concerns.
- Perform maintenance and repair functions on water systems including pressure reducing stations, pumps, valves, pipes, valves, SCADA, water meters and hydrants.
- Aid department Leadhand in the administration and maintenance of the District’s cross connection control program
Hours of Work
The normal workday shall consist of a scheduled period of up to eight consecutive hours of work and the normal workweek shall consist of up to five consecutive days, followed by two consecutive days off. The regular shift for this position is Monday - Friday.
Staff will also be required to enter into the after-hours standby rotation which may require varying hours and response to alarm calls in both the distribution system and treatment plant.
This is a CUPE Local 608 position with a pay rate of $35.26 per hour.
Qualifications
- High School Graduation
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License
- EOCP Water Distribution II Certification
- Chlorine handling certification
- Confined space entry certification
- Cross connection control tester certification
- Snowmobile safety training certification
Preferred candidate will also possess:
- EOCP Water Treatment II Certification
- Completion of a post-secondary program related to water quality and/or water engineering.
