JOB PURPOSE :

The Kitaskinaw School Therapist is an integral component of Kitaskinaw's Educational Mission. The school Therapist supports the development of students with guidance programs, counselling services, personal/social, educational, and career development they also provide assessment, case planning, and intervention for students at risk or experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and/or developmental difficulties. Acting in a non-teaching capacity, Kitaskinaw's school therapist will collaborate with staff, students, parents, and members of the community to further create and enhance an effective, healthy learning environment for all students registered at Kitaskinaw School.

The Therapist will be responsible for:

  • Provide support for children and their families by developing and implementing goal based counselling services, integrating individual program plans and wrap around services that are provided at the school as well as in the community. Goals and counselling will have a holistic, cultural approach, and will be developmentally appropriate;
  • Ensures all referrals, intakes, and reports are completed and shared with the Inclusive Education Coordinator and / or others in the student support services team that may are involved with the students, this includes administration as well as teachers;
  • Follows governing bodies code of ethics, limits of confidentiality as well as FOIP regulations;
  • Assists in the engagement of cultural healing modalities when appropriate;
  • Will create and implement groups for the students that focus on leadership skills, social skills, emotional intelligence, traditional healing practices, and other themes that may arise.
  • Works closely with the Inclusive Education Coordinator to ensure that all students are receiving services appropriately and effectively. This includes weekly meetings with the Inclusive Education Coordinator for case consultation and speak about potential new services;
  • Promote ways and means to develop an education and healing experiences that facilities respect for the pedagogy of the Maskekosak nehiyaw and traditional healing practices.
  • Builds productive relationships with families, staff, community, and external partners;
  • Developing and enhancing positive interpersonal and effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and administration;

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education in a discipline related to mental health
  • Three years school or community related experience
  • Basic knowledge of psychiatric and developmental disorders affecting children and adolescents
  • Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FIOP) Trained
  • Certified in Standard First Aid with AED
  • Cree language is an asset
  • Minimum Class 5 Driver’s License and provide own transportation
  • Clear Criminal Record Check/Intervention Record Check

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work a total of 40 hours a week, at maskêkosak kiskinomâtowikamik School, while adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
