Nestled in the heart of the beautiful rural community of Wiarton is Gateway Haven Long Term Care Home. Alongside the picturesque Colpoys Bay in Wiarton, 100 residents call Gateway Haven Home. Built in 2003, the home has many wonderful features that contribute to the health and well being of our residents. The unique "C" shaped building allows each resident to have a view from their room whether it is a view of our beautiful park, surrounding neighbourhood or a picturesque view of Georgian Bay.

Home is a place where residents may live with dignity and in security, safety, and comfort and have their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs adequately met. Salary

The wage for this position is $19.50 per hour, based on the UNIFOR collective agreement. An additional 12.84% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation will also be paid.

About the job

The nursing department at Gateway Haven Long Term Care Home is accepting applications for Temporary Resident Support Assistants. Under the supervision of the Registered Staff, the Resident Support Assistant (RSA) provides assistance by performing routine tasks that do not involve direct resident care. The RSA is responsible and accountable for providing optimum services in the provision of activities of daily living, dining services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Make beds, change linen, collect and bag soiled linen/clothing and deliver to the appropriate locations.
  • Porter and escort residents as needed to meals, programs/activities and exercises.
  • Assist residents in the dining room by taking meal requests and serving meals.
  • Act as the second care provider in lifts and transfers, including the use of mechanical devices.
  • Cleaning of bathtubs between baths and stocking supplies.
  • Removing garbage from resident rooms and public areas.
  • Clean resident rooms including organization of resident personal belongings.
  • Putting away resident clothing and taking laundry from resident floors to laundry. Exercise care in use of Brucelea and Gateway Haven equipment and residents’ belongings.
  • Complete assigned tasks and duties in a timely manner.

Schedule

Shift Times:

Day Shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm

Evening Shift: 11:00am - 7:00pm

Requirements

  • Secondary School Diploma preferred
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
  • Computer literate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work inter-dependently.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, good organizational skills
  • Resident/family oriented and able to act as an advocate of resident rights
  • Good physical and mental health and a professional attitude

Bruce County requires that all new hires show proof of full vaccination (three doses) against COVID-19 to be eligible for this position.
