Ronald McDonald House Charities® Newfoundland and Labrador (RMHC NL) is located in St. John’s near the Janeway Children's Hospital. Ronald McDonald House offers accommodations to sick or injured children and their families who must travel to St. John’s for medical reasons. Operated by a small staff and supported by dedicated volunteers, we seek the services of a full-time Development Officer.

The Development Officer is responsible for developing and executing fundraising initiatives and programs to help achieve Ronald McDonald House overall mission and goals. This position involves researching, prospecting, cultivating and managing relationships with donors, as well as coordinating fundraising activities.

This role is accountable for achieving fundraising goals within a portfolio of community/corporate/signature events, donors of all levels, including major gifts, and other fundraising sources utilizing year-round strategies designed to build and maintain superior relationships, cultivate donors and engage volunteers in the work of Ronald McDonald House Charities Newfoundland and Labrador in order to meet and exceed measurable revenue goals.

Reporting to and working closely with the Director, Development & Communications, the Development Officer key responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets.
  • Inspire and mobilize individual and corporate donors to give, advocate and volunteer by discovering their interests
  • Utilize knowledge gathered from donor meetings to develop and implement year-round strategies to engage donors.
  • Execute on short- and long-range strategic fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Work with Director of Development to create and implement a prospect research and prospect management strategy for each donor. (Moves Management)
  • Recruit, engage, and manage volunteers and provide them with leadership and direction in support of event execution and the cultivation and solicitation of donors and prospects.
  • Maintain donor database as a tool to help build relationships by keeping accurate and up to date stewardship records.
  • Promote mission, and invite others to become involved in a way that is meaningful to them by executing on annual communications and marketing plans that include traditional marketing, website, social media and online fundraising as required;
  • Work with the Director of Development & Communications to deliver a variety of presentations to workplaces, community groups and schools;

· Provide tours to existing and prospective donors/volunteers as needed;

· Manage a portfolio of ongoing signature/corporate/community events

  • Coordinate and execute community-based fundraising activities by stewarding and building relationships within the community;
  • Support and inspire community event organizers, participants and volunteers to be successful.
  • Assist community event organizers and individuals with online fundraising.
  • Troubleshoot and anticipate event participant needs and proactively search for solutions to ensure event participant expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Execute provincial volunteer plan that includes recognition, recruitment & retention strategies;
  • Prepare bi-weekly status summaries and update reports for review with the Director of Development
  • As needed, answer in person, telephone, email and social media requests and queries;
  • Perform other relative duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have fundraising/event planning experience in the not-for-profit sector.

Preferred qualifications include:

· Post-secondary education in fundraising, communications, marketing and/or administration;

  • Minimum 1+ years in fundraising, sales and marketing, and/or account management.
  • Proficient with MS Office. Experience working with spreadsheets, design software, publisher, and online fundraising platforms.
  • Basic accounting skills required;
  • You can effectively promote opportunities and partnerships through excellent public speaking, presentations and face-to-face networking. You have outstanding written and verbal skills.
  • You know how to increase volunteer engagement and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Event planning and/or project management experience would be an asset.
  • Relationship building expertise. You can gain the trust of community, business and school audiences, deepening existing and growing new relationships. You can inspire action, build momentum and encourage participation.
  • Proactive, goal-oriented and creatively resourceful.
  • You are comfortable working as part of a fast-paced team. Able to manage a demanding schedule and prioritize responsibilities. Able to manage multiple projects.

· Successful record of working with volunteers;

· You have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel throughout province as needed.

· Ability to work in an environment with families in times of stress or crisis

Compensation: Salary Range - $40,000-$50,000. Excellent benefits program. The position is permanent full-time (Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.)
