Saskatchewan has approximately 1 million people, 35% living in rural areas. The majority are 2nd-to-5th generation Canadians of European descent; 15% are of First Nations origin, 5% Metis. About 700 people arrive in the province each year as refugees.
The MCC constituency includes churches, most belonging to Mennonite Church Saskatchewan and the SK Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. Rosthern Junior College, a Mennonite high school, is also a part of the constituency.
The MCC Saskatchewan office is located in the north industrial area of Saskatoon, a city of 210,000 which is a service and distribution centre supporting the surrounding area with commercial, technical, agricultural, transportation, health, educational, and other public services. The MCC Saskatchewan building accommodates MCC staff, a Material Resource Centre, some meeting spaces, and the offices of other organizations.

Required
  • Minimum three years of professional experience in customer relations.
  • Proven ability and comfort with soliciting major gifts and estate bequests from a wide range of donors.
  • Familiarity with fundraising principles and practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with ability to nurture long-term relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism, with ability to build trust with donors.
  • Self-motivated and can work independently to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with and support colleagues to achieve revenue goals.
  • Available to work with a moderately flexible schedule and to travel throughout Saskatchewan.
  • Possess a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

Job Synopsis

The Donor Relations Associate is a member of the Communications and Donor Relations team of MCC Saskatchewan, and a member of the Canada and U.S. CDR Network. This role is responsible to build relationships of trust with donors and increase donation revenue for MCC Saskatchewan to support MCC’s international programs and its own local programs. This role focusses on relationships with Major Donors ($5,000+ annually), potential major donors, Foundation donors, Company donors and Estate donors.
Primary tasks including corresponding with donors through visits, phone calls, and emails, and assisting them to accomplish their annual giving objectives. This includes engaging in all aspects of the donor development cycle - identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship – in coordination with the activities of the Donor Stewardship Coordinator and the Donor Engagement network.

Key Responsibilities

1. Major Donors - Create and provide appropriate stewardship of relationships with Major donors and potential major donors in conjunction with the Executive Director and CDR Director:

o This includes emails, visits, phone calls, meetings in social settings, special invites to MCC events, invitations to learning tours, and arranging meetings with International Program staff if appropriate.
o Use the Major Gift catalogue as a tool to increase annual giving amounts.
o Record all contacts made on donor database and make notes of conversations.
o Cultivate relationships with major donors whose support has lapsed.
o Provide regular impact reports to donors about the projects they support.
o Foster relationships with new donors in the major and middle donor categories with the goal of moving them to become regular annual donors.

2. Planned Giving - Maintain a planned giving program and conduct stewardship practices that support the national strategy to foster estate bequests.

o Conduct stewardship practices with donors who provide donations through Giving Foundations.
o Conduct stewardship practices with family members of deceased donors who provided estate gifts.

3. Business Donors - Develop relationships with existing and potential corporate donors and develop a strategy to increase giving from businesses, including sponsorship arrangements.

4. Annual Relief Sale Festival - Develop and provide a fundraising plan for the annual Relief Sale Festival in coordination with the planning committee.

5. Other:

o Be available to provide presentations about MCC’s work at churches, events, and special invitations.
o Participate in events as needed to assist in building relationships with donors and potential donors.
  • Provide reports to CDR Director, Executive Director, and MCCS Board as requested, and attend monthly CDR Team Meetings and Major Gifts Network meetings.

  • o Participate in analyzing revenue and assist in setting annual income projections.
    o Conduct research, analysis and monitor donor and giving trends.

    6. Other duties as assigned.
