Seasonal Public Works Operator

Full Time - Temporary (40 Hrs/Week)

Strathmore has exciting opportunities for Seasonal Public Works Operators from June 2nd – September 30th, 2023.

Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, this position will play an integral role in maintaining the Town of Strathmore’s Road network for safe public use.

Position Summary:

The Seasonal Public Works Operator will be part of the Operations Team and will work primarily outdoors. This position requires daily use of hand and power tools, handling of asphalt materials, paints, and the safe operation of work vehicles. The tasks required can also be physically demanding.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • General labour duties associated with hot patching, crack sealing, line painting, street sweeping, sign maintenance, catch basin maintenance, overland storm system maintenance and cemetery work
  • Operate a variety of light duty equipment (vehicles, crack sealers, asphalt hot boxes, line painters, tractors, rough cut mowers, skids steers and hand tools, etc.)
  • Assist in set up and tear down of special events, as required
  • Assist with traffic control
  • Perform duties in accordance with all Town safety policies and OH&S requirements
  • Assist other departments with operating duties, as required
  • Required to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Candidates must be available to work until September 30th

Hours:

The work week is typically Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week but may include overtime, sudden change of shift time to meet operational needs, weekend and statutory holiday coverage shifts, as required. Due to civic events, it is mandatory that all Seasonal Public Works Operators be available to work on Canada Day and the Heritage Day long weekend.

Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 education
  • Minimum Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License, with clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Able to operate various maintenance equipment and tools
  • Can work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Training in First Aid, WHMIS, Flag Person Safety and Q endorsement are all considered assets
