The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking an ophthalmologist specialized in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus. The ideal candidate will hold RCPSC certification in Ophthalmology, a minimum one-year postgraduate fellowship at a recognized program in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario and CMPA coverage.

They will be committed to patient-centred care, continuous improvement and lifelong learning. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the academic and administrative goals of the Department and University. An established record in pediatric ophthalmology clinical practice would be an asset. Specialized expertise or interest in a related clinical/academic field, such as educational program development, quality improvement, interprofessional collaboration, or patient decision-making tools may also be helpful.

Primary Responsibilities of a successful candidate:

  • Tertiary level pediatric ophthalmology clinical care at CHEO
  • Equitable participation in the general ophthalmology on-call rotation for The Ottawa Hospital and on-call clinic coverage.
  • Commitment to Department, Hospital, and University support through an equitable contribution to clinical research, administrative duties, and teaching, including training and supervision of learners at all levels.

Resources:

  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a hospital- based academic practice, engage in teaching, and participate in innovative research and advocacy.
  • An academic appointment with the University of Ottawa commensurate with experience and academic accomplishment
  • Equitable access to CHEO Department of Ophthalmology clinic and operating room resources, contingent upon sustained fulfillment of support activities
  • For interested candidates with the appropriate skill set: access to the operating room at The Ottawa Hospital per Department allocation methodology for adult cataract surgery is also available.
