MaxMind (www.maxmind.com) is looking for a talented Operations Associate to join us. We help protect thousands of companies worldwide from fraud, screening over a billion online transactions each year, and we provide IP intelligence data to thousands more. You will play an important role supporting many different departments of the company, and will become a go-to person in a variety of areas, including IT, data and reporting, taxes, internal software, and more.

This is a full time remote position, and we welcome candidates to apply from anywhere in Canada.

Position Overview

As a MaxMind Operations Associate, you will work with the COO and another Operations Associate to ensure the smooth operation of the business. You will work on a wide variety of things. Some things you might do include: providing internal IT support, assisting with HR initiatives, doing project management for and otherwise supporting business development or legal projects, ensuring compliance with a variety of regulations, and proposing areas for improvement. You will also help address new issues as they arise - these can be related to contracts, billing, human resources, technology, and more. This is a position for a strong generalist who is able to run through detailed and sometimes tedious checklists regularly and who can also handle ambiguity and take the lead on trying to solve novel operational problems.

Responsibilities

You do not need to know how to do all of the things below when you join, but you should be willing and able to learn how to perform these and a variety of other important tasks. You will be trained and supported by others along the way. Your responsibilities will include some mixture of the following:

● Provide basic IT support services to individuals within the company, helping to set up and troubleshoot computer problems

● Perform a variety of regular audits to ensure that:

  • We are billing properly and customers are paying as scheduled
  • Competitors are not using our data without a proper license
  • Our services are meeting service level objectives
  • Our trademarks are not being misused

● Assist in preparing necessary filings for tax, data privacy, and other purposes
● Perform administrative tasks including data entry, answering and routing inbound email, assisting with billing collections, etc.
● Assist internal business teams with data reporting and analyses related to our customers, products, and services
● Help address any new issues that arise and do not clearly fall to another department
● Assist in selecting and vetting vendors to help solve various problems
● Support Human Resources in onboarding / offboarding employees

Minimum Qualifications
You will know you are a strong candidate for this position if you:

● Are interested in working remotely and are effective working independently.
● Find enjoyment solving operational problems and getting things done
● Possess a willingness to learn and perform a wide variety of different tasks
● Can juggle multiple priorities and strong judgment to determine what’s most important given business objectives
● Are reliable, and are able to perform data entry, auditing, and other tasks with a very low rate of errors
● Have excellent organizational skills
● Have an eye for detail and a willingness to work on sometimes tedious tasks
● Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and professionally as well as communicate effectively by phone and email
● Are willing to challenge conventional and company wisdom and propose new and better ways of working
● Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) or the Google Workspace (Sheets and Docs)

Desired, but not required

● Experience providing IT support, in particular administering Addigy, JAMF, or another mobile device management solution

● Experience with HR (e.g., benefits administration, hiring)
● Skill in data analytics (e.g., analyzing sales data)
● Experience working in a position where you had a variety of responsibilities (i.e., “wore many hats”)

● Experience working at a startup, especially related to web-based software

Our Interview Process

One of the first steps in our interviewing process is a homework assignment, and we will ask you for a submission so we can gain insight into your work. The following step of our interview process would be a first round interview with our hiring manager and our Operations Associate. This interview will cover questions specific to the role. Next, there would be a final interview with our HR Manager and our hiring manager. That interview would be a more general / behavioral interview. The final step of our hiring process is reference checking.
