The Newcomer Engager role is created to support the Newcomer Outreach program to understand and facilitate solutions to the City of Cambridge newcomer community integration and gaps in service delivery. You know the importance of relationships and are committed to the well-being of newcomers. Your passion will be key in engaging newcomers, building, and connecting social supports and encouraging the contribution of newcomers in their new community. This program is possible through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Settlement Grant.

Kinbridge is looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about building relationships, creating inclusive opportunities, and connecting people.
  • Is skilled in collaborating with newcomers, teams and groups towards a common goal.

Job Responsibilities

  • Relationship building with newcomers, current and new partnerships, Neighbourhood Associations, City Staff
  • Program development and facilitation engaging youth and seniors in the process
  • Co-creating an annual newcomer conference to build connectedness and participation
  • Assisting with evaluation implementation and data collection
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment at Kinbridge and Program Coordinator at the City of Cambridge
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as programs or events require

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Post-Secondary in any of these fields: Immigration, Diversity, Canadian Studies, Volunteer management, Social Sciences, and/or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Experience: Work experience in programs and services, evaluation and community development. Community Capacity Building and advocacy skills, relating to newcomer and diverse populations. Proven ability to work in a collaborative, team environment, as well as, independently. Experience and understanding of community partnerships, outreach and network strategies. A strong understanding of Cultural Responsiveness, AOP/anti-racist approach, empowerment-oriented practice, person-centred approach, trauma and violence-informed care is preferred. Lived experience as a newcomer or understanding of such as acquired through education, work or life experiences is a strong asset. Ability to speak a variety of languages such as: Arabic, Somali, Swahili, or and Farsi/Dari an asset.
