PURPOSE OF THE JOB


DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking an experienced, creative, and strong leader to join our Health Promotion Department as the Manager, Counselling and Gender-based violence services (GBV). The Manager will support the strategic vision, planning, and delivery of counselling and Gender-based violence programs that provide support to immigrants, refugees, racialized communities, and others using a strength-based approach that is rooted in the principles of cross-cultural responsivity, justice, and equity. The ideal candidate will enhance DIVERSEcity’s leadership edge with respect to specialized areas of trauma and attachment-based counselling services, mental health promotion initiatives, violence prevention, and clinical addictions programs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, management, implementation, and evaluation of specialized counselling programs for immigrant, refugee, ethno-cultural and racialized (IRER) individuals, families and communities;
  • Ongoing monitoring and assessment of community needs and trends, along with development of responses to emerging needs;
  • Provide supervision to ensure all staff provide professional, client-centered support which enables culturally agile and excellent service;
  • Recruitment, supervision, and development of frontline staff providing individual and group counselling supports;
  • Operational and Strategic planning for the counselling and Gender Based Violence services department;
  • Prepare budget forecasts of assigned programs and monitor program expenditures with support from the finance department;
  • Fulfillment of contractual deliverables and management of risk;
  • Ensure that programs are innovative, effective and meet the needs of clients and their community;
  • Participate in external committees, advisory groups and relevant networks to be informed and updated on emerging issues, build capacity of programming and to advocate on behalf of clients to help address service gaps in the community;
  • Securement and growth of funding for programs, advocacy to funders and development of strategic partnerships to build the department’s capacity.
  • Liaises with funders regarding operations and reporting, as well as ongoing planning, evaluation and advocacy;

Qualified candidates will posses:

  • University degree in social sciences or relevant post-secondary training and experience in counselling, psychology, social work, addictions, mental health and concurrent disorders or related fields. Preference would be given to candidates who also hold a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), MSW or Registered Social Worker (RSW) designation.
  • Minimum three (3) years leadership experience supervising and developing staff;
  • Experience working in a community-based or non-profit organization;
  • Experience in program development, with knowledge of federal, provincial contract management and/or funding and proposal/grant writing;
  • Experience with budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring;
  • Excellent communications skills. A second language is an asset;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Candidates must be willing to work some evenings and weekends, as needed;
  • A valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle.

Preference will be given to candidates who also posses:

  • Knowledge of IRER communities and settlement issues;
  • Knowledge of Surrey, North Delta, White Rock, and/or Langley communities;
  • Verbal fluency in a second language is an asset; Arabic, Mandarin or Punjabi preferred;
  • Previous program management experience, including program outcome evaluation, budgeting, report writing and program planning, funding and proposal/grant writing;
  • Clinical counselling and/or clinical supervision experience;
  • Experience managing within a unionized environment.

A criminal record check is required as a part of this process.
