One Floral Group is a wholesale flower producer that provides tailored floral solutions to retail customers throughout North America and is one of the fastest growing producers of floral products. Our business has over four million square feet of growing and production space in more than six facilities in three different climate zones. We have the ability to grow and build a variety of products, including potted plants and planters, outdoor lawn and garden plants, and vegetable propagation in the best conditions. The primary office is located at 2350 Fourth Avenue, Jordan Station, Ontario L0R 1S0.

The company is seeking to hire a Junior Grower (NOC 0822). This is a full-time permanent position for 40-50 hours per week for $55,000 annually. Prospective employee will be required to work at two locations: Seacliff Farms located at 451 Seacliff Drive West, Leamington, ON N8H 4C9) and One Floral located at 2350 Fourth Avenue, Jordan Station, Ontario L0R 1S0. Benefits will be available after three months and dental benefits after six months. Two weeks prorated vacation.

Education and experience required:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or similar

· Minimum 2 years of experience in Greenhouse / Horticulture Operations

· Experience or Educational background in Phytopathology, Entomology, Plant Physiology

Job duties:

· Order materials such as fertilizer, garden and lawn care equipment, and other nursery and greenhouse related accessories.

· Maintain records on stock and personnel.

· Review crop schedules, growing protocols and best practices to grow crops on specs and standards.

· Growing plugs, rooted cuttings, potted plants, field crops and maintenance of plants, as instructed by the Grower or Senior Grower while being focus in meeting spec and standards

· Providing assistance to Growers in the maintenance of crops

· Control watering and irrigation of crops. Check in regular basis mist, fog, drips and flood systems. PRIVA.

· Spraying, fogging and bio applications to prevent and control pests and diseases on crops.

· Monitor and test fertilizer solutions and media pH, EC and tank sampling and fertilizer mixing.

· Implement Integrated Pest Management practices directed by Head Grower.

· Maintaining and cleaning underground tanks, nozzles on booms and mist lines and hand disinfectants

· Continuously learning new plant varieties and the proper handling to ensure optimum growing conditions

· Monitor daily activities to determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality

· Openly and honestly communicate with all employees to build trust and effective teamwork as well as encourage employee involvement to achieve shared organizational objectives

· Follow and adhere to “Best Practises” under the direction of the Growers and Senior Grower

· Regular crop walks with the Growers

· Ensure that all employee questions, suggestions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner

· On call 24-7 to respond to alarms or greenhouse related emergencies in rotation with other Team members

· Other Duties as assigned by Head Grower

· Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

· Excellent communication and follow through skills

· Detail oriented and extremely organized

· Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, showing initiative and good judgement

· Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and requests

· Flexibility with schedule - hours may vary and be able to work extended hours during peak harvest periods, weekends, Holidays

· English communication

· Spanish is a plus

· Production and Operations experience is a plus.

Job duties:

  • Order materials such as fertilizer, garden and lawn care equipment, and other nursery and greenhouse related accessories.
  • Hire and manage staff, oversee training and set work schedules

· Maintain records on stock and personnel.

· Review crop schedules and provide mapping for crops for planning process.

· Responsible for the growing of plugs, liners, vegetable plant propagation, potted plants, field-crops ensuring to meet specs and standards.

· Determine and implement IPM System / practices to prevent and control insects and diseases on crops.

· Document, Implement and Maintain growing “best practices”, determined by the Head Grower; alert the team of any changes. Ensure that “best practices” are always followed

· Manage all growth regulators and pesticide applications.

· Setting up areas for new plantings and continually monitoring the environment: Lights, mist, curtains, fans, floor heat, Greenhouse temperatures and all environmental conditions.

· Control irrigation systems, flood, drips, sprinklers and hand water as needed to maintain ideal moisture on crops. Hands on as needed / required.

· Inspection of all live plants, when importing or exporting or within the facilities.

· Direct and supervise Assistant Growers and Crop Techs on daily activities and assignments.

· Provide a weekly/monthly activity report to Head Grower outlining activities, key challenges

· Recognize unsafe conditions and practices, and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss

· Responsible for overseeing all miscellaneous task such as; calibration, sanitizations, cleaning and disinfecting of underground tanks, etc.

· Monitor daily activities to analyze, evaluate and determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality. Always look for improvements.

· Maintain records of all aspects of the crop, shrink reports, weekly reports.

· Document and update Growing Protocols to be approved by Head Grower.

· Effective team building, provide guidance/support to junior staff members

· Ensure that all employee questions, suggestions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner

· Encourage and support an open communication policy with all employees to establish and meet common objectives

· Openly and honestly communicate with all employees to build trust and effective teamwork as well as encourage employee involvement to achieve shared organizational objectives.

· On call 24-7 to respond to alarms or greenhouse related emergencies to be shared with other Growers.
