Instructor, Plumbing (Term) 
 Piping Trades, School of Skilled Trades & Technologies 
 Applicants are to clearly demonstrate how they satisfy the selection criteria in their written 
 submissions and must identify the competition number when submitting their application. 
An eligibility list may be created for similar casual, part-time, full-time, and term positions
D U T I E S 
 Reporting to the Chair of the Piping Trades department, the Instructor is required to deliver both 
 the theoretical and practical aspects of Plumbing to apprentices and pre-employment students in 
 the Plumbing program, including instruction into related trades. Topics covered will include, but 
 are not limited to, trade safety, tools and equipment, piping and materials, regulations and project 
 installation, and plumbing code. Duties include, but are not limited to: development and 
 modification of curriculum, conduct student assessment and counseling, perform lab and 
 classroom facility design and setup, maintain lab and classroom equipment and perform related 
 administrative responsibilities as required. 
- Valid inter-provincial journeyperson's certificate in Plumbing
 - Signifcant related industry experience in the commercial and / or residential aspects of the
 
- Experience using a variety of hand tools and machines
 - Experience reading blueprints
 - Effective verbal communication skills
 - Effective written communication skills
 - Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate
 
- Effective leadership skills
 - Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
 - Ability to present material to diverse groups with the use of appropriate technology
 - Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
 - Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning
 
and continuous improvement
- Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) or Technical Vocational Diploma
 - Post-secondary instructional experience
 - A network of contacts within industry
 - Gas B and or A license
 
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
 - This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
 - Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education
 
program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
