POSITION SUMMARY
The Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor is responsible for ensuring that all operations and activities comply with Brookfield Multiplex Construction Canada's Health Safety & Environmental policies, standards and management systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors and assists with implementation of project HSE plan and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops, and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Participates in and provides information for HSE meetings. Identifies potential topics for meeting in conjunction with the superintendent.
  • Implements HSE communication strategy on projects.
  • Anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification for project sites.
  • Assists with building hazard identification processes.
  • Leads and conducts HSE inspections.
  • Identifies any specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and provides any required training.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders and vendors to find cost-effective solutions for PPE.
  • Develops and evaluates effectiveness of project emergency response plan.
  • Assists project management and supervision with the development and evaluation of the site-specific security requirements.
  • Executes crisis communication plan for project(s).
  • Audits trade contractor safety performance to ensure compliance with HSE programs.
  • Monitors trade contractor safety performance.
  • Assists with verification and review of HSE submission requirements for trade contractors.
  • Implements, monitors, and supports the project's HSE manual, HSEOPs, safe work practices, and any other HSE-related practices.
  • Develop and maintains strong customer focused relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Indirect supervision of craft, which includes overseeing day-to-day responsibilities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years' experience in related industry, with direct experience in HSE.
  • Postsecondary diploma/degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Safety & Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, or a related field or a related discipline.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification - preferred or working towards.
  • National Health and Safety Administrator or National Construction Safety Officer - Preferred or working towards.
Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Strong working knowledge of OH&S and environmental legislation.
  • Working knowledge or experience in ISO 14001: 2015, ISO 45001:2018 and COR 2020™
  • Conflict resolution, with the ability to manage and effectively resolve conflict with contractors/supervisors and influence others towards resolution.
  • Strong communication and presentation.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internal operational systems, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
