The Opportunity

The School of Hospitality and Tourism (H&T) is proud to be ranked as both as the number one hospitality school and number one Culinary school in Canada, and #18 in the world. The school is currently accepting applications for a full-time Hospitality and Tourism Management Instructor. Reporting to the Academic Chair, Hospitality and Tourism Management you will work with students and faculty in a team-oriented setting to champion innovation, inclusion and values of belonging. As a leader in your field, you will be accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with academic lectures and hands-on learning, events and activities to inspire the future leaders of our industry. In addition, the successful applicant will have a record of scholarly activity in Hospitality and the technical skills to support an applied learning environment.

The Role
Prepare and present courses, lessons plans, lectures, assignments, evaluations, examinations and learning activities.
Deliver engaging courses in hospitality and tourism management to diploma and undergraduate students using a combination of theoretical content and active, applied instructional methods.
Evaluate student progress and provide timely, summative and formative feedback.
Create fair, inclusive, respectful, safe, transparent learning environments.
Coordinate classroom delivery and assessments with faculty colleagues.
Prepare additional study materials for learners.
Provide ongoing academic support, guidance and advice to learners and potential learners.
Stay abreast of emerging pedagogical and andragogical issues and educational technologies.
Assist in the development and maintenance of curriculum and program quality reviews.
Maintain and develop contacts in relevant industry sectors.
Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues.
Participate in program and school meetings.
Promote and support SAIT and the School of Hospitality and Tourism’s vision, mission statement and education plan.
Participate in scholarly activity related to your field or area of expertise, pursue external funding, and disseminate knowledge.
Stay current on industry trends and changes in hospitality management standards to ensure that program content delivered is relevant and current.
Pursue professional development to nurture and build upon expertise in fields of practice and in the field of teaching and learning.
Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging, evolving needs of SAIT and its students.
Qualifications
Minimum completed master’s degree in hospitality & tourism management or business/management with a hospitality/tourism focus.
A PhD in hospitality/tourism management or a related field would be an asset.
A record of scholarly activity including publication and dissemination of research on relevant hospitality/tourism topics is strongly preferred.
Senior management industry experience in hospitality/tourism with experience that may include: finance, strategic planning, operations, leadership, analytics, sustainability, and business planning.
Knowledge of property management system, OPERA is an asset.
International work and/or teaching experience an asset.
Financial expertise is required as some courses are financial in nature.
Previous instructional/facilitation experience at the post-secondary level and/or demonstrated teaching skills in the workplace are assets.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong network of contacts with other professionals, organizations and employers.
Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a diverse team environment.
A proven dedication to continual, lifelong learning.
