Job description

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Tailings Optimization and Validation Program:

  • Participate in an extensive program of lab work involving geochemical and geotechnical testing of the McClean Lake tailings with the possibility of participation in other GeoEnvironmental projects as time permits
  • Daily collection and management of geochemical/geotechnical data
  • Assist in other duties related to contractor management


Geo Environmental and Metallurgical Testing:

  • Assist with onsite testing programs coordinating with Engineering and Projects, Metallurgy, Environment and Geosciences as required
  • Complete sample preparation of solids and liquids samples
  • Potentially complete bench-scale/ field testing under the guidance of Orano personnel
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of all testing


General Duties:

  • Work closely with drillers, consultants and site personnel to coordinate activities and testing
  • Complete periodic workplace inspections, in conjunction with Orano and / or Contractor HSE personnel
  • Embrace and support Operational Excellence efforts and OE Culture
  • Comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Promote and adhere to Orano Canada’s values: Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Respect and People Development, Cohesion and Team Spirit, and Exemplarity, Integrity, Responsibility


Work Location & Schedule:

  • McClean Lake, SK – fly in/fly out remote mine site
  • 14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
  • Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
  • Some physicality will be required for the lifting and processing of samples and other miscellaneous duties


Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Tuesdays


Pick-Up Points: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Camsell Portage, Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston.


As a condition of employment the successful candidate must complete Orano’s pre-employment checks including education verification and employment reference checks.


Drug (including marijuana) and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all Safety Sensitive positions. Applicants who have recently used marijuana recreationally may not pass a substance test as marijuana can remain in the user’s system for as many as 30 days after use.

Ideal qualifications

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

  • Must be enrolled in a Geological Sciences or Engineering (Mining, Civil, Geological, GeoEnvironmental, Chemical) program and entering third or fourth year of study
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel is considered an asset
  • Experience with Sharepoint intranet collaboration sites is considered an asset
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal communication skills are required
  • Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping
  • Must be able to work effectively to coordinate with other departments within the company as well as external contractors and consultants
  • Works well independently with good trouble-shooting skills
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are residents of Saskatchewan’s North
