JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Supervisor provides support to staff and clients within our residential Withdrawal Management and Treatment Services program. The program is staffed by an interdisciplinary team who provide counselling, support, withdrawal monitoring, education, and skills development to support client recovery. You will ensure the provision of high-quality services through program oversight, staff coaching, data analysis and quality improvement activities. The Supervisor works collaboratively with the program’s Manager and fellow Supervisors, as well as with leaders across the Addiction and Mental Health department and community partners, to ensure continuity of care for clients. As an RPN leader working in this setting you enjoy collaboration across an interdisciplinary team, more focused care on a smaller number of clients than in most healthcare settings, more autonomy over your work, and meaningful contribution to an underserved area of healthcare. The RPN Supervisor:

  • Adheres to CNO Standards of Practice and demonstrates practice competencies
  • Provides operational and administrative supervision to both RPN and non-medical staff
  • Coaches staff to ensure the provision of safe and effective care, including medication administration and use of structured withdrawal monitoring scales
  • Ensures the team develops individualized support and transition plans for clients
  • Supports and monitors implementation of protocols to assist withdrawal
  • Liaises with community partners, such as pharmacy, RAAM Clinic, and Hospital, to ensure optimal client care
  • Monitors data quality and medication reconciliation to support program improvement
  • Supports program functioning through provision of direct client care as required (including screening, intake, monitoring medical condition/withdrawal symptoms, administering oral and injectable medications etc.)
  • Monitors and supports effective bed flow to ensure we maximize service
  • Ensures a safe and clean facility

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week. Tuesday through Saturday, rotating a week of days (8 am – 330 pm) and a week of afternoons (1230 pm – 8 pm)

Training: Initial comprehensive training related to all aspects of the role, as well as access to ongoing professional development.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

Pay rate: Starting at $28.25 (plus shift premium of $1/hour extra for overnights and weekends) and comprehensive benefits.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registration in Good Standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Practical Nurse Diploma from a program recognized by CNO, with preference for Category 1 approval
  • Minimum 2 years related clinical experience in an addictions or mental health setting (one year of recent and relevant experience in the management of withdrawal from substances is preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by CNO
  • Skills in leadership and teaching/coaching
  • Formal supervisory experience an asset
  • Proof of valid First Aid/CPR certification
  • Familiarity with MS Office and client/EMR databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to manage frequent exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress
  • Proof of vaccination (minimum of 3 doses) against COVID-19
