Role
Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you provide operational services for the provincial delivery and management of the federal Firearms Act. The services provided enhance public safety through the responsible administration of firearm licensing, serving a wide variety of stakeholders.
You are responsible for conducting interviews and investigations to determine the eligibility of an individual or business to hold a firearms license. The recommendation to approve, refuse or revoke a license is articulated to the CFO in a clear and concise manner. As part of the role, you will encourage compliance with corrective actions, investigate public safety concerns, resolve regulatory issues and determine eligibility for firearms licensing, sale, transport and transfer. This will be achieved through a variety of activities, consultations and communications with the firearms industry, including importers, exporters, manufacturers, wholesalers, gunsmiths, auction houses and retailers. You will also liaise with a wide range of organizations, such as club and range operators, individual firearms clients, law enforcement agencies, court officers and other government employees.
A commitment to public safety will be paramount.
Qualifications
University graduation in a related field and at least two years of progressively responsible and related experience conducting firearms or public safety related investigations and conducting Interviews.
This position also requires experience working with firearms. Previous experience working for the Canadian Firearms Program is considered an asset. Experience working on complex investigation files and analysis in a law enforcement setting (such as police, corrections, probation or military) will be given preference.
Experience using the PROS,CPIC, CFIS, National Canadian Firearms Program Database, other policing systems or programs, or other comparable programs will be considered an asset.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Salary
$2,646.59 to $3,471.47 bi-weekly ($69,075- $90,605/ yearly)
Notes
The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:15AM-4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week. Overtime may also be required. Some travel may be required throughout the province which may include evenings and weekends.
Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening and obtain and maintain an RCMP enhanced reliability status screening.
The successful candidate must hold a Restricted Possession and Acquisition License (PAL). Handling firearms is a requirement of this position.

The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license. Travel throughout Alberta is required.
