The West Vancouver Engineering Construction Department has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Equipment Operator 1 position. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

· Safely and efficiently operating and maintaining light construction and maintenance equipment such as air compressors, vibrating rollers, light tractors and attachments;

· Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in asphaltic paving operations.

· Performing daily equipment inspections and submitting inspection reports;

· Performing other related duties as required

The preferred candidate will possess: completion of senior secondary school, experience or training in the operation of similar equipment used in the application of hot mix asphalt; a class 1 or 3 driver’s license, an air brakes endorsement, experience operating a skidsteer would be an asset.

The successful candidate will possess: knowledge of the rules of safe operation of light maintenance and construction equipment; ability to finish asphaltic concrete surfaces to prescribed grades efficiently; effective communication skills; mechanical aptitude along with ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding role in all types of weather conditions; some knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools used in servicing and making adjustment to such equipment; and possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. The successful candidate is also required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire.
