Position Title: Director, Group Actuarial Financial Management
Reports To: VP, Group Actuary
Department: Group Actuarial
Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately September 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.

The Opportunity: Equitable Life is growing! We are looking for a Director, Group Actuarial Financial Management to join our Group Actuarial team!

This position plays a role in driving the growth and profitability of the Group Life and Health line of business by contributing to the financial management, actuarial valuation and assumption review functions for the division.

What you will be doing:
Participate in the operational plan development and analyze and report on financial results
  • Work with the IFRS17 reporting team to produce quarterly valuation and financial analysis
  • Analyze and report on quarterly financial results
  • Responsible for the financial plan projections and contribute to the development of the operational plan for the division
  • Monitor experience and recommend corrective actions, where required, to attain results
  • Ensuring the sound interpretation and application of actuarial theories and techniques
Assumption review and updates
  • Provide oversight to the Actuary, Group experience monitoring and assumptions, responsible for experience monitoring and assumption reviews to address emerging experience trends and market changes and support new product initiatives.
  • Review and recommend changes to existing standardized reporting and new reporting to better identify risks or opportunities to Group’s growth and profitability
New initiatives
  • Responsible for the implementation, review and reporting for drug cost management initiatives
  • Work with the IFRS17 reporting team to update valuation models for new product initiatives
Reinsurance
  • Manage reinsurance arrangements and monitor their execution to achieve growth and profitability goals
What you will bring:
  • Require degree in Mathematics or equivalent and completion of FSA, FCIA requirements
  • Minimum 5 years insurance experience, including experience in Group
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of the Group Life and Health business including Actuarial methods and Underwriting practices
  • Require technical competence in Excel and other actuarial tools
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff in both their professional and leadership development, including 4 direct reports
  • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills
  • Strong collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills
