General Accountability
Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Civil, the incumbent is responsible for preparing preliminary and final civil engineering drawings for various projects, using CADD. The incumbent liaises and coordinates with various sections of the Engineering Department to check and ensure the coherence and consistency of information on preliminary and final drawings for the civil components of projects.
Key Job Functions
- Prepares civil engineering drawings from conceptual to as builts for various projects using CADD, working with Senior and Design Engineers.
- Reviewing existing conditions and drawings, working from sketches and marked-up drawings, and obtaining additional data necessary for the completion of accurate design drawings;
- Visiting sites to determine and record existing conditions and deficiencies;
- Researching additional information as necessary to ensure final designs are practical and meet applicable code requirements;
- Liaising and coordinating with various Engineering Department sections to check and ensure the coherence and consistency of information on preliminary and final drawings for the civil components of projects;
- Providing direction and supervision to students, and checking their drawings and work;
- Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Education and Experience
- Successful completion of a (2 year) Community College Civil Engineering Technician Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience combined with several years of related work experience.
Additional Requirements
- Sound knowledge of drafting and design principles, methods and practices for civil contract drawings as they relate to civil engineering installations;
- Knowledge of the procedures and techniques for writing associated technical specifications;
- Knowledge of the Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications and Drawings, Ontario Ministry of Transportation Specifications, City of Toronto Standards, and other applicable codes and regulations;
- Ability to interpret and use all data in engineering, reference and contract books and manuals;
- Good working knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting and Design systems in general, and specifically the use of Bentley MicroStation software and associated computerized applications;
- Good drafting, detail design, analytical and problem solving skills as well as good organizational, verbal communication and technical skills;
- Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s license for the Province of Ontario;
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
