DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Summer Day Camp Teacher facilitates literacy programming for participants in lower elementary grade primary to grade one. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students. Mandatory Training for Summer Camp Teachers is July 4 to 6th.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Elementary

Abilities / Competencies:

  • University level courses in special or inclusive education
  • Professional development in Program Support
  • Professional development in literacy education
  • Experience teaching grades Primary to Grade One
  • Early literacy instruction with a focus on using assessment to guide small group instruction;
  • Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to collaborate with Summer Camp staff;
  • Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of culturally responsive pedagogy;
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan;
  • An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development;
  • Ability to apply training and experience to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students;
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.


Technical / Job Specific Knowledge, Abilities and Training
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR an asset
  • Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal – July 24th, 2023 to August 18th, 2023 (Mandatory Training for Summer Camp Teachers is July 4 to 6th.)

HOURS OF WORK: Mornings on weekdays.

SALARY: NSTU, Paid based on current pay classification
