We are currently seeking a seasoned Senior Financial Analyst with full cycle accounting and financial analysis expertise. Reporting to the Plant Finance Manager, the Senior Financial Analyst at our Whitby Paper Mills will perform financial analysis, budget, cost controls and reporting for significant business units.


As a finance team member, the successful candidate will be engaged in meeting growth and profitability objectives:

  • Identify and analyze operational and spending variances.
  • Providing interpretation of key business measurements.
  • Translating measurements and analyses into sound financial decisions.
  • Generating monthly financial reporting.
  • Provide support to other segments including sales and customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end close activities.
  • Ensure that the Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheet accounts are accurate and conform to ASPE.
  • Ensure ongoing collection and analysis of Sales and operating performance data.
  • Maintain daily, monthly, annual financial reporting as well as related analysis of operational metrics.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports which highlight and explain significant variances between actual results and Budget for the businesses. Participate in identifying solutions to correct negative performance.
  • Prepare specific analyses and explanations for the business including Customer sales volume and price, Supply and production volume, mill fixed costs, Logistics (freight cost), Productivity initiatives and other analyses as required.
  • Establish and maintain monitoring mechanisms that will identify plant performance opportunities and provide plant management with meaningful actionable insight.
  • Prepare the Annual Budget for specific cost centers.
  • Ensure that internal controls are being followed.
  • Assist the Corporate Finance team with annual audit requirements related to the Mill Division.
  • Support other departments regarding financial results for the Mill Division.
  • Respond to inquiries from the senior leadership team and other department heads regarding financial results for the Mills.
  • Identify process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Finance Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Should have CPA accounting designation or working towards
  • 5+ years of progressive experience, preference will be given to candidates with manufacturing experience.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Strong Excel skills and Experience with ERP solutions.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems and use sound judgment.
  • Strategic level thinker with an ability to analyze numbers in terms of their impact on the big picture.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a non-structured changing environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-changing, and entrepreneurial environment with evolving systems and procedures.
