Aston Carter's large, growing, public client is looking to add a Sr Financial Account to their team on a permanent basis. The ideal candidate must hold an undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent along with an accounting designation (CPA, CA), and ideally have more than 5 years of finance and accounting experience gained either in a CPA firm or in a large, international, complex, publicly traded organization.

The Sr Financial Accountant will liaise and work closely with the Sr Manager, Corporate Reporting, Corporate Controller and Sr Director, Corporate Reporting to assist in the analysis of any unusual and complex technical matters, transactions, and business developments (business combinations, goodwill, impairment analysis, revenue contract analysis etc.) and will be responsible for performing an assessment of the related accounting implications and compliance with US GAAP. The role also involves playing a key role in assisting to review the balance sheet variance analysis performed by the Company’s regional controllers on a quarterly basis, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data, and identifying any financial reporting or technical matters.

The Sr Financial Accountant will also play a key role in accounting for the Company’s short-term and long-term incentive plans, FX analysis and forward contracts (derivative financial instruments). The role will also include assisting with preparing the Company’s external reporting documents, including the 10-Q/10-K, Annual Proxy and assist in the analysis of any new reporting matters related to ESG and climate related reporting.

The Sr Financial Accountant is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial information and providing financial analysis to support in strategic decision making. The Sr Financial Accountant will identify strengths and opportunities for improvement within business processes and the Company’s control framework in order to minimize risk and increase the quality of financial information.

In addition, the Sr Financial Accountant will demonstrate strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders in a matrix environment.

As a key member of the corporate reporting team, the Sr Financial Accountant must have the ability to:

  • Consolidate quarterly and annual financial information for purposes of external public reporting in compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations.
  • Be proficient in Excel and have the ability to perform reconciliations of data between systems
  • Perform monthly analysis of financial information and obtain a thorough understanding of variances in account balances to provide meaningful commentary to sr management.
  • Liaise with regional controllers and request financial information and explanations over monthly results
  • Coordinate with sr management, external auditors, as well as other finance teams to enable timely corporate reporting and review of SEC filings including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other SEC required reporting documents.
  • Project manage the research and analysis of accounting matters, escalating issues when identified and collaborating with sr members of the finance team to resolve issues.
  • Provide interpretation of US GAAP on special projects and non-recurring transactions and prepare technical memorandums that document such issues at both the corporate and regional level.
  • Act as a support to Regional Controllers from across the globe to ensure proper accounting, risk mitigation and review of submitted variance analyses.
  • Be an agent of change through continuous improvement process.
  • Ability to identify technical accounting issues and playing a key role ensuring accounting records are in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks accordingly, and meeting the expectations of multiple stakeholders (i.e. external auditors, internal auditors, executives, etc.).

Decision Making:

  • Plays a key role to determine the structure and content of financial policies and procedures
  • Plays a key role in determining the accuracy and completeness of accounting for short term and long term incentive plans, FX analysis, forward contracts
  • Determines the ongoing accounting and technical subject matters
  • Assist in the determination of the adequacy of the quarterly control packages submitted by regional finance teams and provides timely feedback, highlighting issues, suggests areas for improvement etc.
  • Provides assistance in technical accounting analysis and recommendations on structure of contracts, special projects, unique and unusual transactions

Financial Analysis:

  • Ability to deep dive into numbers to recognize the drivers behind the numbers and explain movements
  • Ability to build complex excel workbook in order to achieve enhancement in analysis
  • Working with various internal stakeholders (ie. regional controllers and FP&A teams, FP&A, Treasury and risk management) to better understand the variances in order to produce meaningful financial commentary

Problem Solving:

  • Responding to ad hoc financial reporting and accounting queries, driving the issues to resolution.
  • Working with various stakeholders and other finance teams to ensure timely delivery of SEC filings, raising any issues and asking appropriate questions.
  • Reconciliation of key reporting schedules and accounting systems and issue identification
  • Gaining agreement/consensus amongst various team members and stakeholders.

MUST HAVE

  • 4+ years of post designation experience (SEC reporting, financial statement analysis and reporting)
  • CPA (can be CA, CMA, or CGA)
  • Advanced Excel Skills-power user to be administered (pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, etc.)
  • System Savvy, someone who likes to use different systems (OneStream tool)
