Reporting to the Manager, Security, the Security Specialist is accountable to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and building facilities and property. This is accomplished by consistent guidance to Security Guards, Security Telecommunication Operators, and FM Trade staff when required. In addition, the Specialist will assist with preventative security, coordination of emergency response, public relations, investigation, and report writing. At times of high activity levels, the Specialist will also assist the Security Guards and FM Trade staff with the performance of front line activities. Therefore portions of the Security Guard job Fact Sheet will also apply to Security Specialist.

Rate of Pay: $34.71 per hour - $43.40 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a 2 years cerciticate/diploma in Protection, Security & Investigation, Police Foundations, or as acceptable by the Hospital
  • Licensed as a Security Guard in the Province of Ontario
  • 3 years of recent, related experience
  • A valid Ontario “G” Driver's License; required to produce a 3 year drivers license record satisfactory to the hospital
  • Required to provide proof of current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Standard First Aid. The Hospital requires that you maintain current registration in both of these programs
  • Proficient knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to role (i.e. Criminal Code, Fire Code, Ontario Hospital Act, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour relations and LHSC union contracts
  • Advanced non-violent crisis intervention skills (management of aggressive behaviour)
  • Proficient knowledge of proper use of restraints system
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Proficient public relations skills
  • Proficient knowledge of the use of fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to patrol outside in unfavourable weather conditions
  • Proficient coaching skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and re-prioritize as situation changes
  • Demonstrated ability to keep emotions under control and to restrain negative actions when provoked or when working under stressful conditions
  • Must be available for 24/7 shiftwork
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
