Scale-house Attendant will mainly support our residential lines of business. The Scale-house Attendant will be primarily responsible for dual functions of a Customer Service Representative and a Scale Operator. The Scale Operator will assist taking incoming calls and emails from customers/residents as well as assisting with weighing loads for incoming and outgoing vehicles. The Scale-house Attendant’s must ensure that all vehicles entering the waste station are inspected, weighed, and charged appropriately.

Job Duties:

Transfer Station:

  • Answer and direct all phone calls in a professional manner
  • Answer customer inquiries relative to transfer station use and charges and recycling
  • Greet customers and drivers at the scale house is a pleasant and professional manner
  • Handle issues a customer may have pertaining to billing or service for all customers, in a timely, accurate and professional manner and seek assistance when needed
  • Organize and collect credit applications for on account customers
  • Working with Accounting, follow up on payments for overdue accounts
  • Manage time-sensitive administrative and data entry tasks
  • Track all traffic coming into the yard, scale all incoming and outgoing vehicles, record information using the computerized scale software
  • Provide weigh ticket on each vehicle and obtain information regarding material entering the transfer station and calculate the appropriate fee to be charged for disposal or refuse
  • Visually inspects loads for hazardous waste and advise haulers of questionable material on proper procedure for disposal
  • Direct vehicles using the transfer station relative to proper dumping areas, such as composting, soil, yard waste, recycling, etc.
  • Track and record any complaints and compliments
  • Record and prepare clear and concise reports from data, documenting all outgoing material and incoming material on a monthly summary
  • Input and track all outgoing activity in a excel spreadsheet
  • Track any waste diversion weekly.
  • Keep constant communication between the Scale-house and Transfer Station Operators.
  • Manage and cash till.
  • Gather and prepare required documentation for MOE reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with other Scale-house Attendants, Operators, Yard Labourers, and other personal.
  • Perform all other duties as required
  • Other duties that may arise as assigned by supervisor or members of the Management Team.

Bin/Dumpster Rentals:

  • Answer and direct all phone calls in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Answer customer inquiries relative to bin/dumpster rentals use and charges and pass on any larger inquiries to management.
  • Handle any issues a customer may have pertaining to billing or service for all customers, in a timely, accurate and professional manner and seek assistance when needed
  • Track and record any complaints and compliments, discuss with Supervisor, and follow up.
  • Record and receive payment.
  • Organize and collect credit applications for on account customers
  • Working with Accounting, follow up on payments for overdue accounts
  • Promote bin/dumpster rentals
  • Book and schedule bin/dumpster rentals
  • Complete daily bin/dumpster scheduling and coordinating the routes with the support of the Supervisor
  • Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring attention
  • Submit weekly/daily inbound reports to manager
  • Perform any and all other duties as required
  • Other duties that may arise as assigned by supervisor or members of the Management Team.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a customer service position involving receipt and disbursement of money
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Perform basic mathematics skills
  • Read and accurately record scale reading
  • Must be proficient in computer skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public
  • Deal with public and general contractors and suppliers courteously and tactfully
  • Experience with bookkeeping an asset

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $15.50-$20.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift
