PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Sales Technician position is responsible for calculating, submitting and negotiating in the quotation process from receipt of quotes through to follow up with customers. The individual coordinates estimates from the Tooling and Production departments and Subcontractors. The position responds to customer inquiries, maintaining existing account sales contracts and assisting in the development of new accounts and production projects.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

The Sales Technician position accurately and effectively processes quotations from the receipt of quotes through to customer follow-ups. The position has no direct reports but may provide guidance to the Administration, Logistics, Shipping and Receiving, Production, Tooling, and Quality Departments and personnel.

The Sales Technician will work closely together with the Key Account Managers and the Sales Director supporting all sales activity for customer accounts. The position The position may receive work assignments from Key Account Managers and the Sales Director.

Internally, the Sales Technician provides information to, and gets information from, all levels within the organization. Externally, the position has regular contact with subcontractors, with potential and existing customers, in cases being responsible for a customer account.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of a post secondary education in an Engineering, Business Administration, Mechanical Technology, and/or Marketing program or equivalent working experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Applications and SAP. Ability to read blueprints and GD&T, and to handle sometimes high-pressure situations is required. Individual must be a team player, detail and service-oriented, conscientious and highly organized. Must have both a valid Ontario Driver’s License and Passport as both are necessary due to travel requirements.

Communication Skills: The incumbent must have strong oral and written communication skills for normal business communication. The candidate must communicate within all levels of the organization and many external contacts. Customer visits and functions require understanding of appropriate dress code and entertainment limitations.

Nature and Length of Experience: A minimum of one-year experience in similar job function and automotive manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience in engineering, tooling, and/or technical sales are definite assets to the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in development of the documentation process including assigning quote numbers, updating quotation log sheets, quote follow-ups, sales forecast logs and quotation checklists, etc.
  • Prepares quotations for customer coordinating tooling and production quotes, including RFQ to tool estimator, purchasing and logistics (sending tenders for raw material and subcontracting), applies RFQ checklist and reports disclaimers or substitutions, lists sources and pricing details, submits prepared quote to Sales Manager(s) for approval, submits quote to customer, files quotes and follows up as required.
  • Negotiates price increases/decreases with customers regularly.
  • Makes recommendations to the Continuous Improvement Team with regards to process streamlining, mistake proofing, economic improvements, eliminating duplication, improving customer satisfaction and quality improvements.
  • Maintains existing customer base, handle day to day communication with customers, visits with customers when necessary. Reviews and maintains customer accounts receivable monthly. Reviews and maintains customer contracts regularly.
  • Reports regularly on customer satisfaction and all new work orders to the Sales Manager(s).
  • Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department.
  • Prepares sales forecasts per part number in the SAP system for assigned customers and makes all required entries into the SAP system relevant to new job orders.
  • Handles special projects as assigned by the Sales Manager(s) or President. Researches for all relevant information required for customer and industry developments and new technologies.
  • Assists with new project launches.
  • Collection of past due accounts, account transfers of production for non-profitable activities.
  • Performs work in a conscientious, accurate, business-like and courteous manner.
  • Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
  • Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
  • Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
  • Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Manager.
  • Any other job-related duties characteristic to the position, as may be assigned from time to time by the Manager, President and management team.
