The Safety Manager will be responsible to provide safety support and services to our trucking terminals located in Winnipeg and Brandon, MB as well as Rocanville, SK and surrounding area. This Safety Manager will spend up to 75% of their time each week in the field working alongside our professional truck drivers, field driver support, and customers. The remaining 25% of their time will be spent in our Terminal locations providing classroom training and completing the various administrative tasks required to support the work in the field.


The POSITION and RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Schedule and facilitate all necessary driver training including online and in classroom; supervising and training drivers on product loading and unloading where required
  • Conducting competency assessments, safe behavior observations, covert observations and safety meetings in field/on job sites align with KPIs in place
  • Mentor/Coach Field Driver Support
  • Ensure driver training and qualification records are accurate and up to date
  • Complete jobs hazard assessments as required and work with compliance team to correct
  • Internal collector for company Alcohol and Drug program including pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident screening
  • Review Lytx Drive Cam incidents and facilitate driver review and follow up as required
  • Daily review and system update as required of all speed gauge and stability reports
  • Ensuring identified hazards have an implemented corrective action plan and discussed with employee and customer as required
  • Investigate all injuries, motor vehicle collisions, spills, mixes, and related incidents
  • Mitigation of accident scene including clean‑up environmental concerns
  • Liaise with our internal insurance adjusters and appraisers during incident investigation
  • Examine photographs, video surveillance, audio clips, statements, and all other documentation, related to a claim and work with internal staff on root cause
  • Work with corporate safety team to determine preventability and corrective actions (CAPs) and liaise with the Central Learning Centre (CLC) to ensure CAPs are completed
  • Prepare all incident reports, including required data entry to ensure compliance with all company and regulatory reporting obligations
  • Review daily all internal and external incidents for completeness and ensure proper file management
  • Liaise with HR regarding any workplace injury claims (WCB)
  • Other duties as assigned

The INDIVIDUAL and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years’ related safety experience in the transportation industry
  • Ability to be on call to attend to incidents that occur
  • Willingness to travel throughout the defined region (throughout Manitoba and west to Rocanville, SK and surrounding area)
  • Class 1 driver’s license is considered an asset
  • Good working knowledge of the transportation industry and its operation with knowledge of a variety of commodities including dangerous goods
  • Knowledge of the dispatch system, TMW is an asset
