What do you offer?

The Refugee Claimant Engagement Program Supervisor will play a crucial role in supporting the successful resettlement of refugee claimants in Ottawa by building and maintaining partnerships with local agencies and organizations. The position will be responsible for developing and implementing an outreach strategy to engage with community organizations, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to provide comprehensive support services for refugees.

In addition, the Refugee Claimant Engagement Program Supervisor will facilitate cross-collaboration between organizations to address systemic issues that impact refugee claimants. By doing so, the position will help to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for refugee claimants in Ottawa.

The Program Supervisor will also support refugee claimants in accessing community services such as healthcare, education, and employment opportunities through making referrals to partner organizations. This will ensure that refugees have access to the resources they need to succeed in their new community.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Providing ongoing support to refugee claimants as they navigate the resettlement process.
  • Supporting refugee claimants in accessing community services such as healthcare, education and employment opportunities by making referrals to other organizations.
  • Developing and implementing an outreach strategy to engage with local agencies and organizations to support refugee claimants.
  • Establishing and maintain partnerships with community organizations, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to provide holistic support for refugee claimants.
  • Facilitating cross-collaboration between organizations to address systemic issues that impact refugee claimants.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Post-secondary education in a related field

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • French and other languages are considered a strong asset

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • 4-5 years’ experience in working with newcomers or immigrants or in a multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of immigrant settlement services, specifically refugee resettlement and programs offered for newcomers to Canada
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, online research and data entry
  • Proven sensitivity and working with the needs of immigrants from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of community resources in the Ottawa area
  • Ability to travel between sites, including, but not limited to, working from the federally funded hotel locations, meetings with program partners, and/or events as required

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
