Overview of the New Brunswick Refugee Clinic

The New Brunswick Refugee Clinic/Clinique de Refugiés du Nouveau-Brunswick (NBRC-CRNB) provides free bilingual legal services to refugee claimants and persons making humanitarian-based immigration applications in New Brunswick.

The primary service provided by the NBRC-CRNB is assistance to persons claiming refugee status before the Immigration and Refugee Board, including pre-refugee claim consultations, assistance to file refugee claims, guidance throughout the entire refugee determination process, mock refugee hearings and representation at the hearing.

Other services include assistance preparing humanitarian or risk-based immigration applications, as well as assistance to persons detained under immigration laws and regulations.

The NBRC-CRNB is a registered charity. Its services are available to persons in need who cannot afford a private lawyer.

Position Overview

Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Refugee Case Coordinator of the New Brunswick Refugee Clinic is responsible for the daily management of client’s case files. The position has some flexibility to allow for part-time and hybrid work.

Core Position Responsibilities

· Conduct preliminary client interviews, determine eligibility, conduct assessment and coordinate intake.

· Assist clients to prepare and complete asylum seeking and immigration applications such as refugee claims, work permits, permanent residence applications on humanitarian grounds.

· Collect, organize and assess documentation in support of cases.

· Package and submit applications to IRCC and IRB.

· Correspond with the client and government services regarding refugees and immigration processes and procedures.

· Prepare grant applications.

· Develop processes, spreadsheets and checklists to support a successful fundraising campaign.

· Create and update web-based and electronic resources to promote the NBRC and its fundraising goal, including the development of a social media strategy.

The ideal candidate should possess, or be willing to gain experience, in the following:

· Experience working with culturally diverse clients, economically disadvantaged groups and/or persons at risk.

· Strong organizational skills to manage a high-volume caseload with competing demands.

· Strong attention to details.

· Cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to effectively interface with clients.

· Communication in a timely and responsive manner to different stakeholders.

· Stress management, high degree of adaptability and top cultural sensitivity.
