Position Summary

This posting is in anticipation of future part-time teaching opportunities starting as early as September 2023. Reporting to the Associate Dean – Human and Justice Studies, with a flexible schedule and in-person classes, the part-time Professor will facilitate the delivery of courses within the programs listed below, incorporating a variety of teaching, learning and assessment strategies, which are designed to successfully meet the needs of learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines
  • Creates an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles
  • Develops and implements course learning outcomes and alternative delivery strategies, ensuring that they support and reflect program goals
  • Assures that students are aware of all relevant learning outcomes, learning strategies and assessment techniques
  • Assesses student achievement of learning outcomes and supports student progress through individual tutoring, academic counselling, and timely feedback
  • Develops multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporates appropriate educational technologies into the learning process
  • Liaises effectively with internal and external partners to create and maintain a collaborative and relevant learning environment

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a University Degree in the social sciences or related field
  • For all positions – minimum of 3 years recent full-time industry experience
  • For Social Service Worker part-time Professor – currently registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • For Child and Youth Care part-time Professor – seeking applications from Child and Youth Care workers with a diverse set of experiences supporting children and youth
  • For Police Foundations part-time Professor – seeking applications from Police Officers with a diverse range of policing experience
  • For Customs and Border Services part-time Professor – knowledge of and experience with brokerage and logistics, or immigration or with Canada Border Services Agency
  • For Community and Justice Services part-time Professor – knowledge of and experience with supporting justice-involved individuals in community and/or residential/custodial settings in any of the following areas: security, risk assessment, rehabilitation, reintegration, discharge planning, case management, intervention services such as program design and/or facilitation
  • For Inspections, Enforcement, Safety and Investigations part-time Professor – knowledge and experience in any of the following areas: risk management, security, security technology, investigations, crime prevention or enforcement procedures
  • A proven commitment to achieving and developing excellence in others
  • A commitment to lifelong learning in the field
  • A proven ability to work within a collaborative environment, demonstrating flexibility
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Advanced computer literacy and a demonstrated willingness to acquire and use learning tools (such as Loyalist’s “Canvas” Learning Management System) commensurate with departmental requirements
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and problem-solving, conflict and stress management skills
  • Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating curriculum is an asset
  • Experience facilitating learning at the post-secondary/adult level demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning is a strong asset
  • Experience training others

Benefits eligibility is based on the weekly assigned teaching hours for the Contract Academic Staff:

  • 1 to 6 hours per week are Part-Time status
  • 7 to 12 hours per week are Partial-Load status
  • 13 or more are Sessional status
The weekly hours will by assigned by your Associate Dean.
