Overview:

The Plant Supervisor is responsible for the daily activity and performance for their specific operations area and the development, leadership and management of the associated staff. The Plant Supervisor will lead by example supporting alignment with all functional groups, Environment, Land, Manufacturing and Safety to drive communication and consistency. Primary focus is optimizing available reserves and leveraging operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production. Ensures Lafarge is viewed as a valued member of the industry and local communities in which it operates.
Responsibilities:

Safety Culture:
  • Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm;
  • Lead daily huddles to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
  • Lead monthly WPI and Safety Meetings; Management representative of JHSC;
  • Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work;
  • Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.
Human Resources:
  • Directly responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of all direct reports to maximize their performance;
  • Responsible for the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports;
  • Assist in the site hiring process; Assist in the administration and management of local collective and hourly working agreements amongst all direct reports;
  • Promote, develop and drive customer focus, operational efficiency and performance management process within frontline teams;
  • Practice active and passive supervision of frontline teams.
Production Management:
  • Implement and track maintenance, production processes and strategies to achieve targeted Operational Performance Indicators (OPI’s). Employ daily communication process with management and Quality to drive group efficiencies, manage inventories and production performance.
Financial Management:
  • Assist in planning, driving and tracking financial performance with local/regional tools, develop, implement and manage annual repair budgets, perform financial analysis to identify cost reduction opportunities. Forecast profitability and production to optimize yield; support supply chain with balancing inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact.
Customer Focus:
  • When required assist in the management of all frontline shipping personnel; Coordinate with sales and dispatch personnel to ensure daily customer requirements are met; Management of stockpile inventories; Coordinate with Quality and shipping personnel to address shipping quality issues related to production issues.
Land Management:
  • Responsible for short-term planning and execution of activities in accordance with the Mining Plan; Ensures site level compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Implement and management of a sustainable mining plan with detailed stripping, production phasing and rehabilitation forecasts to ensure reserve optimization, while managing community impact.
Environmental Management:
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site Environmental Management System (EMS); Manages daily water taking data to ensure compliance with Permits to Take Water (PTTW) at all respective sites. Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits; and ensure all direct reports comply with operational standards developed to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact. Ensure that site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
Community Relations:
  • Support effective relationships within the community by participating in local activities/events and through partnerships with local associations and the business community.
Relationship with Others
  • Reports to Plant Manager
  • Supervises site production, maintenance, and shipping employees
  • Works closely with other SW AGG Production Staff, Quality Staff, Area Safety Representatives, Land and Environmental Staff.
Specific Accountabilities:
  • Safety: Daily Huddles, FLRA’s, HI’s, VPC, Near Miss, Safety Inspections, Safety Meetings, Plant Pride
  • Land: Dust and Noise control
  • Labor: Shift Schedules, People Development and Management.
  • Production: Manufacturing OPI’s, Maintenance management, Daily production sheets & meeting, Primary Crusher report, Downtime reports, Maintenance Module
  • Customer Focus: Shipping & Quality KPI’s, Manage Shipping and Stockpiling staff
  • Financial: Stay within operational budget

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma, College Degree in Engineering or Business would be definite asset.
  • A minimum of two years Supervisory/Managerial experience working in a similar environment
