Summary:

Camp Sonshine is a non-profit organization that runs a camp for both children and adults with disabilities. This is an overnight camp located close to Notre Dame du Laus on a beautiful lakefront.

Transportation will be provided from our main office location in Orleans, Ontario at the beginning and end of each camp session at no fee.

All food is provided while at camp for no fee.

Description:

Maintenance staff report directly to the camp director and work to support the rest of the team to maintain and protect the overall operation and appearance of the site. They perform maintenance and grounds-keeping duties to ensure a functional, healthy and attractive environment. Performing building and site maintenance tasks as required. They support counsellors and kitchen staff as needed and assist the full staff team with a full-camp clean and sanitize during session changeovers. Maintenance staff also are required to change garbage daily, and maintain the waterfront, watercraft and equipment such as putting gas in the boats and raking the beach. Room and Board and meals are provided during camp sessions.

Schedule:

There will be a training weekend around Mid-June to help prepare all staff for a successful summer. Camps run from July 3rd- August 30th. Each camp is 5 days with breaks every weekend. At the end of the summer there is one 10 day camp which runs over the weekend.

Salary: $100 per day + room, board, and food

Qualifications:

• At least 16 years old by the start date of this position.
• Ability to work with a team and independently.
• Ability to exercise good judgement in setting and carrying out daily tasks.
• Open to receiving feedback.
• Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks.
• Aptitude for operating camp tools, vehicles and equipment i.e. Lawn mower, small power tools etc.
• Comfortable working in a medically and special needs based environment.
• Current vulnerable sector police reference check

Advantageous Criteria

• Facilities, maintenance or grounds keeping experience or experience working in a camp/resort style setting.
• Experience working in a special needs environment.
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED qualification.

Physical Requirements:

This can be a physically demanding job and can include: walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling; bending, stopping, kneeling, crouching, sitting and crawling; mopping, sweeping, wiping and scrubbing. You must be comfortable working outside for long periods of time

The minimum physical requirements for this position include:

• Able to lift 20kg.
• Work at step-ladder height.
• Use common housekeeping tools.
• Use commercial/hazardous housekeeping products.
• Work in varying indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain and changing weather.
