RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nurse Clinician Skin & Wound:
  • Applies a specialized and expanded body of knowledge of integumentary wound, ostomy & continence systems in the care of patients experiencing issues in these areas.
  • Conducts advanced assessment of skin, wound, incontinence and ostomy issues and develops plan of care in collaboration with patient, family and the interprofessional team
  • Supports the development of a culture of prevention of skin breakdown and pressure ulcer development
  • Is well versed in best practices related to skin, wound and ostomy care
  • Provides hospital-wide clinical consultation in wound and skin management. This responsibility includes direct client care and interprofessional team consultation, direction and evaluation of individual care plans for wound and skin care.
  • Teaches, counsels, troubleshoots and advises patients & families with skin, wound and stoma care
  • Coaches, mentors and acts as a role model to support staff in being able to assess and problem solve basic wound care issues.
  • Participation in JBH committees and regional/community committees, as appropriate, in consultation with the Administrative Program Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Baccalaureate level Nursing degree required
  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Certification as a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Canada (NSWOCC) recognized through the Canadian Association of Enterostomal Therapy Required
  • International Interprofessional Wound Care Course certification an asset
  • 5+ years' experience working as an NSWOCC in the acute care hospital environment
  • 3-5 years' recent experience in Medical and/or Surgical Nursing required.
  • Knowledge of full scope of treatment modalities for skin, wound and stoma management and preventative skin care techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex psychological needs of patients and families.
  • Ability to focus on corporate skin & wound programs by participating in activities that promote best practice initiatives.
  • Experienced in advanced complex dressings and diabetes foot ulcer care.
  • Adult teaching experience and/or adult education courses
  • Demonstrated leadership skills/ability to function effectively in an interprofessional team.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality and availability.
