PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for organizing the maintenance of equipment aiming at eliminating downtime and improving efficiencies in production and throughout the facility. The Maintenance Supervisor continually aids in improving the performance of the maintenance team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Develop positive working relationships with employees, addressing concerns and resolving issues proactively while working with the collective agreement
  • Provide guidance, instruction and assistance to maintenance personnel and sub-contractors in the repair, maintenance or installation of production equipment ensuring the preventative maintenance schedule is followed efficiently
  • Investigate and rectify non-standard processes and equipment conditions focusing on equipment reliability to maximize production linen productivity
  • Champion work groups, C.I.T. and/or problem solving teams in the resolution of mechanical problems Perform root cause analysis and effective follow up counter measures for equipment breakdowns
  • Optimize the utilization of labour and other resources to meet production requirements Implement process enhancements to improve product and changeover efficiency
  • Participates as a member of product enhancement teams working for continuous improvement of current and future production programs
  • Comply with the facilities World Class Manufacturing principles in order to meet the established targets and objectives including the maintenance of housekeeping standards
  • Ensures the critical spare components are identified and available to maintain production and support equipment

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skill/Experience)

  • Post-secondary Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Valid Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Maintenance Management Professional designation would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an industrial setting, working in a manufacturing environment in an engineering or maintenance discipline
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment will be considered an asset
  • Proven interpersonal, relationship building and conflict resolution abilities with effective communication skills Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making and problem solving attributes
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience Adept at root cause analysis
  • Ability to lead change and be flexible, take initiative and prioritize to deal effectively in a variety of situations

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works indoors.
  • Are exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable on a weekly basis. Factory machines can be quite loud.
  • Work near others. They often share the same work space.
  • Depending on the work site, may be exposed to contaminants. They may wear safety gear to protect themselves.
