Your Opportunity:

We are actively seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist II with experience and knowledge of policies and procedures to join our dynamic team in providing the highest level of service to our clients. This is a multi-site position providing Technical leadership and on site supervision for High River Hospital Laboratory- including Outpatient Collections- as well as the Nanton Collection Site. The Nanton Lab Collection site provides a key role in supporting HealthCare services in the Community of Nanton. High River Hospital provides a variety of services including Labour and Delivery, Surgical Services/Operating room, Acute Care, Long Term Care, Emergency as well as hospital outpatient services and public health. In addition to Bench work, sample handling, result reporting and other technical duties, the MLT II will perform various local leadership functions including, but not limited to: Organizing and coordinating resources and supervising a team of MLTs, CLXTs and MLAs to assure quality operation of all on-site Lab Processes. Monitoring daily processes and taking appropriate preventative or corrective action when required. Technical troubleshooting. Ordering/maintenance of supply inventory and fiscal resource management. Liaise with other hospital departments, personnel and physicians. Ensuring safe work practices are followed. Investigation of safety incidents and concerns. Development/maintenance of staff schedules and time card review. Collaborate with the clinical Supervisor on performance conversations and recruitment. Coordinate the education and orientation of staff and students. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL/AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL/AHS’s information privacy and information security policies.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience as a MLT. Minimum 3 years experience in Hematology and Chemistry. Proven Success performing Supervisory duties in a Medical Laboratory setting. In depth Knowledge of Transfusion Medicine Testing and Dispensing Policies as they apply in a rural Setting. Strong personal leadership and organizational skills with a demonstrated desire for professional development. Proficiency in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen procurement and handling, and transfusion medicine. Proven ability to work within a computer based environment ability to remotely coordinate and provide feedback to staff using available tools- email, IM, Virtual conference, etc. In depth Knowledge of Laboratory Saftey Practices and APL Safety Policies. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking/ troubleshooting skills and the ability to effectively adapt to stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and direct work assignments. Ability to provide effective feedback and coaching to peers. Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into daily practice. Strong Change Management Skills demonstrated by a history of facilitation of change Management projects. Demonstrated Knowledge of HSAA Collective Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous MLT II/III experience. Minimum 2 years experience as an MLT in a Rural Setting preferred. Completed courses in Coaching or Feedback. Completed courses in Conflict Resolution. Completed courses in Change Management. Experience with Beaker and Wellsky Lab Information Systems as part of AHS Connect Care preferred.
