Our Hospital has 33 Acute Care Beds, 96 Long Term Care Beds, and 4 Restorative Beds. Clinical services include: general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, maternity, Cancer Clinic and Dialysis. The hospital has a busy Emergency and Out Patient Department and is the only collection site for community patients. This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures in the Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Specimen Procurement departments, within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Technologist. This position requires a 30-minute response time to site for on call duties.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent, relevant experience in Biochemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine (Gel Method) required. Recent experience in procurement duties including phlebotomy and ECG procedures required. Proven interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills in English are required. Excellent public relations and a service-oriented manner are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast-paced and changing environment. Proven analytic and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, logical/methodical work habits, and demonstrated ability to work independently are required. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations, prioritize workload, and adapt to stressful situations are essential. Candidate must be well organized and flexible and demonstrate initiative to take on extra projects as required within the lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care, Unity Real Time and WellSky LIS experience. Instrument experience with Ortho Vitros XT3400, DXH600, ACL Elite Pro, I-Stat, Triage Meter and Clinitek Advantus preferred. Experience with gel method ID Microtyping in Transfusion Medicine preferred.
