Junior Laboratory Technician Job at York University
Purpose:
The Junior Laboratory Technician role works closely with other Laboratory Technicians to prepare and supply undergraduate laboratories with chemicals, reagents and related material to be used in laboratory exercises. The role will maintain and upkeep the cleanliness in the laboratory environment.
Education:
Chemistry Laboratory Technician Diploma or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Two (2) years recent-related and direct laboratory experience including a minimum of one-year practical experience in a Chemistry laboratory.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey and understand information.
- Strong organizational skills to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work as a team member to realise the goals of the unit.
- Ability to work independently to complete assigned laboratory activities
- WHMIS Level II and Chemical Handling and Lab Fire Safety training
- Ability to solve basic problems
- Able to use word-processing and computerized spreadsheet applications
- Ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with othersOther:
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Proficiency with some chemical instrumentation and knowledge of lab safety and techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical laboratory concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of chemical safety, experimental procedures, and equipment set-up
- Ability to follow technical instructions (SOP) for testing of samples and preparation of reagents
- Able to use hand and finger dexterity when working with gloved hands in water.
