JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

Reporting to the Chief Enterprise Architect, this role is accountable for providing enterprise wide
leadership and vision for data, information, analytics and integration architecture. Services to be
delivered include but not limited to the following:

  • Build upon and maintain the architecture process to deliver business aligned data, information,
analytics and integration strategies, capabilities, roadmaps and solutions.

  • Develop, maintain and promote principles, policies, standards and guidelines that define best
practices in the information, data and integration domain and guide architecture and design
decisions.

  • Develop signature-ready artifacts (e.g. reference models, templates, checklists) that can be
leveraged for developing strategy aligned data management, analytics and integration solutions.

  • Act as a program or project architect for high risk, complex and cross business unit initiatives,
ensuring that architecture elements are consistent enterprise wide.

  • Guide solution architects on developing and implementing architectures with a focus on aligning
to enterprise wide architecture strategies and roadmaps.

  • Coordinate with business, application, infrastructure and security operations teams to provide
guidance on architecture and technology best practices.

  • Perpetually review data management, analytics and integration technologies for investment
recommendations.

  • Participate in research, evaluation, and proof of concept for new products, technologies and
applications impacting data, analytics and integration architecture.



  • Exhibit a creative and innovative mindset when crafting solutions for complex business
challenges.

  • Exercise tact, courtesy and professionalism in ensuring effective teamwork and fostering
productive relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering complex data, information and integration architectures
which would be gained through 8+ years of progressively more responsible work in this field.

  • Demonstrable breadth and depth of experience in developing prognostic and actionable
deliverables across several large-scale, complex technology-enabled transformation projects (e.g.
strategies, roadmaps, visions, reference architectures and solution blueprints).

  • Experience with or thorough understanding of key data and information management capabilities
including data and process integration, data warehouse, big data, metadata management, data
quality, master data management, business intelligence and analytics, enterprise content
management, data security, data privacy and information life cycle management.

  • Experience with or understanding of data architecture patterns like Enterprise Data Warehouse
(EDW), Logical Data Warehouse (LDW), Data Lake and Lambda Architecture.

  • Experience with or understanding of disruptive technologies such as machine learning, artificial
intelligence, natural language processing, Internet of Things etc.

  • Demonstrable experience in presenting and explaining complex architecture concepts to non-
technical audience.

  • Experience with or familiarity with SOA principles and integration middleware technologies and
standards e.g. ESB, ETL, XML, SOAP/REST, API Management.

  • Experience with or familiarity with architecture frameworks like DAMA’s DMBoK and Open
Group’s TOGAF.

  • Experience with or familiarity with data management, integration and analytics tools including:
Oracle DB, SQL Server, Hadoop, EMC GreenPlum, Tibco ESB, Informatica, Business Objects,
SAS, Tableau, SAP Analytics Tools and Power BI.

  • A combination of equivalent qualifications may be considered.

As a key member of Enterprise Architecture team, data architect is accountable for leading the
development and realization of data, information, analytics and integration strategies, roadmaps
and architectures. Collaborating with a broad range of cross functional stakeholders, this role
leads and advises on the development of data management, analytics and integration solutions
supporting BC Hydro business operations. The role will also be accountable for architecting and
evolving a variety of in-use and emerging tools and services related to data management,
analytics and integration.

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
