The King-Bathurst Station Field Specialist – Civil & Architecture is responsible for overseeing the construction of civil and architectural elements of King-Bathurst Station.

The King-Bathurst Station has specific logistical complexities in an extremely densely populated and congested part of Downtown Toronto. Therefore, the work must be carried out with safety as a priority.

The site is constrained by two major roads: Bathurst St. and King St. The station consists of two entrances located one at the northeast corner of the intersection and the other at the southeast corner.

The station surrounding area is important to many stakeholders, including Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (THESL), passengers, local communities and businesses. These stakeholders need care, consideration and communication.

The South Civil contract is for the construction of 7km of twin-bored tunnels running east-west under downtown Toronto, one surface station (Exhibition) and six underground stations. The King-Bathurst Station is one of the underground stations.

The King-Bathurst Field Specialist – Civil & Architecture reports to the Project Manager for King-Bathurst Station


Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the Project Company (PCo) civil and architectural works at King-Bathurst Station, being the DP representative on site.
  • Maintaining high-quality daily records of observations and other information gathered, including site personnel, materials, equipment, work completed (installed quantities) and issues arising.
  • Reviewing deliverables and other submittals prepared by PCo related to construction or construction support for King-Bathurst Station. Identifying non-conformances or other items that require addressing to benefit the project. Specific focus on Inspection and Test Plans (IPTs).
  • Overseeing that the PCo works at King-Bathurst Station are in accordance with the contract in terms of health, safety, environment, quality, schedule and cost performance. Identifying and reporting any non-conformances. Specific focus on witness and hold points identified in ITPs.
  • Reporting progress, identifying risks, highlighting emerging issues and escalating to the Project Manager for King-Bathurst Station.
  • Providing input to and participating in plans and actions to address non-conformances, avoid or mitigate risks and mitigate emerging issues.
  • Engaging discipline leads for subject matter expertise in health & safety, environment, quality, contracts, project controls and interfaces, and implementing direction provided.
  • Building relationships with the PCo site team.
  • Validating progress reports and other data prepared by the Delivery Partner (DP) and PCo against own observations and records.
  • Providing input to the DP progress reports for King-Bathurst Station.

Qualifications
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Relevant experience guideline: 5 years.
  • Previously held construction supervision role(s) with responsibility for the construction of infrastructure of similar scope, size and complexity to a station on a metro project.
  • Experience working on infrastructure mega-projects, preferably Subway or Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects in urban areas.
  • Knowledge of road closures processes and logistic challenges.
  • Good relationship-building and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Fluent in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrated commitment to Zero Accident safety program.
