Job Summary

The Health and Safety Assistant provides support to the Health and Safety Coordinator with day-to-day administrative support, WSIB claims and administration and management, and support other HR and H&S tasks as assigned.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support with all work-related injuries/illnesses – assist with the submissions of WSIB claim paperwork, support active claims (requesting updated medical from team members, ensuring they are being accommodated with safe/suitable modified work, communication, and follow-up)
  • Support Coordinator in team member Early Safe return to Work
  • Facilitate and Support accident/investigations and proper corrective actions.
  • Support the Safety orientation room – monitor trends within Vuteq and industry and determine if changes or updates need to be made to ensure new and current team members are receiving relevant training; support with tours and presentations as needed
  • Support with ergonomic and safety assessments
  • Build and maintain a knowledge and understanding of all health and safety legislation; assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures
  • Support Health and Safety Coordinator on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Support the Health and Safety Coordinator with all administrative tasks; filing, scanning, tracking,
  • Support the Workplace Health and Safety Committee
  • Schedule training for team members when required
  • Supports HR administrative tasks when required


Job Qualifications


Education

  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, Degree/Diploma an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of workplace health and safety policies and legislation requirements in a manufacturing environment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Powe Point, Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities
  • Professional demeanor, ability to exercise discretion while ensuring confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
