The Manitoba government is seeking a highly motivated Gardener to work at the Manitoba Greenhouse, located at 446 Assiniboine Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. This position offers reliable and full time employment with a defined pension plan. Conditions of Employment:

- Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
 - Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers' Licence.
 - Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, crouching and climbing.
 - Must have a Certification in Pesticides and Herbicides Application, or be able to obtain within six months of start of employment
 - Must be able to work around dust and chemicals, in extreme weather conditions and noise levels.
 - Must be able to work overtime as required.
 
Qualifications: 
 Essential: 
- Experience at commercial facilities in the operation of equipment including grass mowers, tilling, gardening, snow removal and other related tools and machinery, acombination of experience and training may be considered.
 - Experience in snow and ice removal from roads, parking lots, sidewalks, roofs, building entrances and other areas as required.
 - Experience in grounds maintenance including lawn care, trees and flower gardens.
 - Knowledge of safe work practicies, procedures and relevant safety policies and legislation.
 - Interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
 - Ability to work independently and establish priorities
 - Organizational skills.
 - Verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients and the general public
 
- Experience conducting routine maintenance on equipment including oil changes, spark plugs, fluid levels and tire pressure.
 
Duties: 
 Under the general supervision of the Grounds Manager, the Gardener performs ground maintenance at the Legislative Grounds, Memorial Park, Government House and other owned properties within the District. The Gardener will receive direction and instruction from senior Gardeners within the district with respect to grounds maintenance tasks. The Gardener's typical responsibilities include: operating equipment required to maintain grass, roadways, parking lots, walkways and cultivated areas; removing snow and ice from roads, parking lots, sidewalks, roofs and building entrances; planting shrubs and flowers, seeding of lawns, laying sod; general equipment maintenance; and assisting in the application of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides; pruning shrubs, hedges and trees; and maintaining lawns and flower beds.
