The Alpine Club of Canada is seeking a full time Finance Manager for its National office in Canmore, Alberta.
As the senior finance and administrative manager in the organization, reporting directly to the Executive Director ensuring effective direction and implementation of the Club’s finance and accounting functions.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
- Development, recommendation and implementation of financial policies
- Coordination, preparation and recommendations of the business planning and budgeting process
- Preparation of monthly financial statements alongside annual forecasts
- Monitoring of financial reporting and performance
- Cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital items including depreciation for backcountry huts, the clubhouse and our share at HI Lake Louise
- GST returns
- Charitable tax receipting in Canada and the US
- Annual financial and charitable returns
- Reconciliations for BC Parks and Parks Canada
- Maintain a good working relationship with the bank and credit card company
- Manage membership for 24 sections nationwide, assist with their accounting and financial queries
- Prepare financial reporting for the annual report
- Annual audit
- Manage a $8m+ designated funds portfolio within investments and exchange funds
- Support managers dealing with corporate sponsors and grants
- Steer monthly financial meetings
- Manage Accounts Technician
- Adherence to the bylaws and updates
- Coach, train, mentor and delegate to relevant staff to adhere to GAAP rules, governance and bylaws
- Approve and submit monthly payroll
- Work closely with HR Generalist
Skills

- Natural leader with excellent people skills
- Able to articulate complex accounting procedures based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Advanced knowledge of Quickbooks online
- Proven track record of teamwork and collaboration
- A professional designation is a plus
- Experience with fund accounting and exposure to the charitable sector is preferred
