Job Summary

Manage Keepsake Plants growing operations including greenhouse and field production, outsourced production and stock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Support the mission of Keepsake Plants and maintain alignment with the mission and objectives of Aris Inc.

Attainment of Objectives including:

  • Realization of Budget year crop plan
  • Industry leading production quality and service level.
  • Administration of grower departments in accordance with Corporate policies and procedures
  • Implementation of Lean within Keepsake Plants
  • Management of Safety and Employee Development
  • CFIA Regulations
  • MOE Regulatory Responsibilities
  • Pest Management

Director of Operations

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure proper execution of the production plan by growing crops to meet quality specifications and ready week
  • Ensure proper staffing of the growing organization
  • Attain employee safety and development program goals
  • Ensure growing plan spending is within budget, adjusted for volume
  • Ensure that each grower department key manager is actively working on an improvement plan .

Duties:

  • Oversee the day to day growing activities of Keepsake Plants in Canada
  • Evaluate the annual production plan and approve all plans for growing crops to ensure plants needed to meet the sale plan will meet specified quality and ready week.
  • Supervise the Growers to provide quality plants in accordance with specifications including ensuring that growers are properly trained including outsourced production. Grow with proven crop methods including fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Determine that all growing environments meet the needs to support the annual grow plan including structures and equipment are in good working condition.
  • Ensure all growing materials and supplies meet specifications including incoming material inspection.
  • Explain and enforce safety and employee development policies and regulations for all growing activities.
  • Identify plant problems that cause production losses or defective products.
  • Ensure that all products ready for shipment meet quality specifications.
  • Ensure that growing operations are properly staffed with qualified, trained workers at proper levels throughout the seasons.
  • Provide information to customers as needed.
  • Prepare annual growing budget in support of production plan.
  • Review and report monthly growing costs and production variances to management to ensure that production spending meets budgets, adjusted for volume.
  • Monitor growing expenses to ensure that they are in line with forecasts
  • Maintain growing inventory to meet commercial requirements including total inventory produced, production losses, expired inventory, available to ship 1 and 2 week ahead and total shipped.
  • Set purchasing specifications to ensure that incoming materials and supplies are ordered and received in accordance with PO with the appropriated quality specifications so that there are no production disruptions and purchases of growing materials are at the lowest possible costs.
  • Tour work areas to inspect and evaluate as needed.
  • Implement Lean Activities to improve quality, service level, operating efficiencies and decrease costs.
  • Manage capital expenditures for grower operations in in Leamington
  • Other as needed

JOB SKILLS

Management of personnel, financial resources, communication, critical thinking and systems evaluation.

The Grower Manager reports to the Managing Director of Operations.

Positions reporting directly to the Grower Manager include:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive knowledge of growing
  • 5 Years + Grower Manager duties or equivalent
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • Horticulture Coursework or equivalent desired but not required
  • Horticulture experience
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Experience with CFIA
  • Experience with MOE
  • Pesticide License
