Administrative Full-time New Position

The UDL Consultant assists faculty in implementing universal design for learning (UDL) practices within outcomes-based teaching to foster inclusive teaching practices which promote student success with a particular focus on accessible learning. The individual works at the individual faculty, program team, and organizational levels in promoting inclusive teaching which aligns with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHR). The Consultant will share forward on legislative expectations and promote practices that have proved successful.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement.

Please note that travel to all Conestoga campuses is a requirement for this position. This position will require evening and weekend work throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops resources, micro-courses, and workshops to support faculty in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning, focusing on the creation of opportunities for multiple means of engagement, multiple means of representation, and multiple means of action and expression
  • Coordinates and creates best practice videos, blog posts, and guides, as well as customized coaching and consultations
  • Informed by UDL research, principles for inclusive teaching, and student feedback, creates solutions-focused interventions and conduct ethics-approved research on teaching practices that overcome barriers to learning
  • Conducts observations for faculty at all campuses
  • Works with other team members, faculty, coordinators, Chairs, and others to identify common learning needs and develop appropriate observation and feedback mechanisms
  • Develops and delivers onboarding to new faculty
  • Supports the co-delivery of onboarding activities for Conestoga faculty (both full and part-time), including mentoring, delivery of new faculty orientation workshops, and creation and updating of new faculty onboarding resources
  • Provides theoretical and/or applied direction and advice on a wide variety of teaching topics by being consulted by faculty and chairs as a teaching practice expert
  • Remains current with teaching practices and procedures by teaching one course per year at Conestoga


Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or Master’s Degree in a related field with additional studies with an emphasis in Universal Design for Learning; PhD preferred
  • Nine or more years of experience teaching in outcomes-based, post-secondary credit courses; Senior level secondary school experience would be considered
  • Previous experience leading “teacher education” and experience with technology-enhanced teaching practices preferred
  • High skill level in all aspects of the post-secondary education process (e.g. curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, evaluation, active learning, etc.)
  • Strong background in post-secondary, outcomes-based inclusive teaching methodologies, practices, and principles
  • Advanced research, analytical, critical thinking, and report-writing skills
  • High knowledge level in all aspects of the teaching and learning process
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and documentation creation skills
  • Good working knowledge of learning management systems
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Strong and demonstrable interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Coaching skills, consultation, and planning skills
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations
