Purpose:
The Domestic Student Recruitment Officer role works under the direction of the Director, Design, Recruitment and Admissions to assist in the implementation of Lassonde's Recruitment and Admissions strategies for Ontario and across Canada. The role supports and tracks these activities and will act as primary contact for prospective domestic students interested in attending the Lassonde School of Engineering (School). The role will be responsible for guiding these prospective students through the entire recruitment cycle, from lead generation to enrolled. The Domestic Student Recruitment Officer role suggests new initiatives and arranges, and coordinates activities such as the Ontario University Fair, Fall Campus Day, and the Spring Open House, as well as smaller scale targeted events for student recruitment, conversion, and transition for the School. The Domestic Student Recruitment Officer delivers presentations and communicates information about the School's programs and admissions requirements. The role acts as an initial contact for students, guidance counsellors, high school teachers and community representatives interested in having Lassonde representation at off-campus event(s). During these events, the role will provide information and guidance to prospective students, parents, guidance counselors, teachers, and the general community who are interested in enrolling in Lassonde's suite of programs. The Domestic Student Recruitment Officer role maintains familiarity with the School's suite of programs and developments in the field of related careers and maintains relationships with organizations engaged in engineering and science operations. Collaborates with central Recruitment and Admissions functions to ensure the School's activities and processes are aligned with the University's overall student recruitment strategies and objectives and to communicate visits, functions, and activities for the School. The Domestic Student Recruitment Officer role supports the vision, mission, values, and strategic direction of Lassonde and York University. The role contributes to a positive, supportive team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, while embracing diversity and fostering inclusion.

Education:
University degree, in Education, Business, Marketing or other related discipline or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last four years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Two (2) years recent related experience, such as educational liaison in an academic environment, making effective presentations and/or public speaking, program/project administration, and prospective student recruitment. Experience in advising/counselling and answering detailed/complex inquiries, in a student service area, is required. Previous experience and familiarity with Science/Engineering programs preferred.

  • knowledge of Ontario university system admissions criteria, university programs and familiarity with post-secondary educational systems is desired
  • knowledge and sensitivity to cultural issues
