The Department of Mental Health and Community Wellness is seeking to fill the position of Director, Standards and Compliance.

The Licensing and Compliance Branch provides a key role in supporting the department to achieve strategic and operational priorities. The branch engages with community agencies, service delivery organizations, retailers, educational institutions and other relevant stakeholders to ensure provincial standards and safe environments for addictions services, and smoking and vapour products.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree in health, social sciences or public administration. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience to support and empower teams to meet strategic priorities and mandates.
  • Experience within the healthcare and social services system, preferrably related to substance use and addictions, mental health, mental illness, and best practices for support and treatment in these areas.
  • Experience applying acts, regulations, legislation, and standards to monitor and review system compliance and annual licensing processes
  • Experience coordinating and leading multiple projects or initiatives and strategies.
  • Knowledge of change management principles with experience leading organizational change and continuous improvement strategies/initiatives.
  • Experience synthesizing information, distilling key messages/issues, assessing risk, developing strategies, and making recommendations.
  • Excellent political acumen to identify operational impacts and influence decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate and build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to clearly communicate complex ideas.
  • Strong written communication skills to prepare clear and concise communications for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, standards for service delivery/care, and/or accreditation processes.

Desired:
  • Experience in public administration.

Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director and functioning as a member of the Mental Health and Community Wellness senior leadership team, the Director, Standards and Compliance provides leadership to the Licensing and Compliance Branch and supports the department with achieving strategic and operational priorities. The incumbent leads and provides direction for policy, operations, standards, program analysis, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation related to the provincial addictions standards, the Smoking and Vapour Products Control Act and the provincial tobacco and vape control program.
