The Opportunity

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development’s Investment Attraction Branch is seeking a strong relationship builder with a background in business and/or economic development to join the team as a Deputy Director.

In this challenging and rewarding position you will be the key point of contact for companies interested in investing in Saskatchewan; you will work to break down barriers to investment by facilitating partnerships, path find solutions and support the client throughout their investment journey. You will develop collaborative working relations and maintain a diverse network of businesses, government and groups to identify and advance economic development opportunities. This position also provides information about support programs, labour markets, infrastructure and coordinates a government response to potential investors.

Reporting to the Director, Investment Relations, the Deputy Director will have:

  • Knowledge of investment attraction principles and practices and an understanding of global trade issues and trends with respect to foreign direct investment;
  • A thorough understanding of the Saskatchewan economy and the fiscal, regulatory and policy issues affecting business in the province;
  • A strong grasp of the current state and opportunities and challenges related to economic development in Saskatchewan;
  • The ability to listen, understand, partner and/or influence others in order to reach mutually acceptable solutions and identify and advance economic development opportunities;
  • Proven track record of communicating to senior leaders, peers, and local and international communities.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a university degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Economics, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in economic development and/or investment. Preference will be given to those with an understanding of the opportunities to attract investment in Saskatchewan’s energy sector.

The successful candidate will be willing and able to travel. This position will require travel within Saskatchewan, Canada and potentially international.
